1991 Mazda MX-5 Miata Description

1991 Mazda MX-5 MIATA

BARELY LEFT THE SHOWROOM FOR A NIGHT ON THE TOWN AND A SPIN AROUND THE BLOCK.

WELL-CARED FOR, ADULT-OWNED, HARDLY DRIVEN.

SOUNDS DOWN RIGHT BORING FOR SUCH AN EXCITING LITTLE CAR.

The documentation and maintenance record is better than Air Force One. All the right spares are included. A car so clean, it only appears to be a year or two old. As a retired career mechanic, I’ve made a hard-earned career off the abusive neglect and mindless wear and tear of well-engineered machinery. Most people will uncaringly drive anything right into the ground in time to buy another new and improved. This car is the exception, as it landed in the garage of the right owners who appreciated simplicity so much as not to indulge it ever.

A QUICK WALK AROUND, INSIDE AND OUT.

No Armor-All® fruit-flavored sheen, gloss lipstick repairs or hustling cover up. An exceptional gem, there’s nothing unusual or suspect on this car. No glaring signs of abuse, accident, mishap or neglect. Outside, panel gaps are perfect, straight sides, hardly a hickey, if only a few typical scratches on the lower front apron under the mouth and on the still clear soft top plastic window from folding down. There’s one shallow pimple ding on the truck deck for just the right light. No rim curb rash. No glass or sense cracks. All latches snick open and close with light touch. Inside, there’s no crumbs, tears, rips of fades of the interior. Seals are supple and tight, all controls function as new, delicate bits solid. Seats firm. Starts, idles, clutches and shifts as new. Acceleration is brisk and precise, tracking true and straight. The car is as clean underneath and in every wheel well as it is on top. No leaks. The cad finishes are still shiny on most fasteners and the factory final inspection paper stickers are still intact throughout, amazingly even on both headlamps when they are up. Think about that for a minute.

WHAT TO DO NEXT?

Really nothing for the moment as the maintenance is current and nothing begs immediate attention. Just drive it. Enjoy it. Preserve it. Wearing an older set of no-frills, economy Cooper tires with full tread, I’d wear them out and eventually spring for a new set, soft and sticky when convenient. The crackly dry paper-cone radio speakers could use a swap. Next winter, looking for something to do, I’d Q-tip® detail and touch-up towards obsession and install a fresh timing belt to stay ahead of the maintenance schedule. This car benefits from clockwork fluid changes, a fresh battery and slave cylinder in keeping it’s Bulletproof Lightweight title belt as Fun Champion of the World for another year. Just get in the ring, hands up, on the wheel and dance. It’s more than ready.

I’M SPRING CLEANING AND SAYING GOOD BUY.

It’s all in the details. If you are in the hunt for a low-mileage, first-generation Miata that can be driven away, coast to coast, I’d consider a firsthand look or more photos of this one. Give a call or stop by for a thorough look and an honest, enthusiastic chat. Located in suburban Philadelphia, I’ll lend a hand any way I can. Then continue to wear it in, and maybe wear it out. With the current high price of convertibles and the bargain fun a first generation Miata still is, this is the way to let the good times roll. Every one should know what it is to drive a car like this, popping the headlights for fun at kids flashing their approval. Make it your own, drive it around and pick up every one that gives you a thumbs up for a ride. It’s O.K., they’re not hitchhiking, just noticing the one empty seat. This car is too good not to share. This Mazda®, still feels right.

No PayPal. A respectful, good faith deposit is suggested with eventual balance in cash, wire or certified bank check, all swapped for clear title, bill of sale and car. Pick up at your convenience. Trusted eBay seller with excellent rating. Miata is currently all alone over in the corner of the garage sipping hi-test saki and forever waiting patiently. Come over and say “Konnichiwa” while I’m spring cleaning and saying good buy.
