1993 Autozam AZ-1 Turbo Intercooler JDM RHD Import Sports Coupe
1993 Mazda Autozam AZ-1 Description
This is a midship (mid-engine rear wheel drive), turbo charged sports car with gull wing doors that's just over 10 feet long and just over 45 inches high and weighs just over 1500 pounds. Built by Suzuki, designed by Mazda, only sold in Japan, the Autozam AZ-1 is unlike anything else you will ever see on the road and is a sports car in the truest sense of the word.
Fiberglass body panels cover a steel chassis while a 5 speed manual transmission is driven by a 660cc 3cyl engine through the rear wheels. Under the rear hood a ZERO 1000 sports intake is installed along with an oil catch can, Splitfire ignition system, aftermarket blow off valve, blue silicone vacuum tubing and rear strut bar. A titanium 'Desert Eagle' muffler handles the exhaust. Aftermarket black hood is up front, wheels are up-sized 14" genuine RAYS TE37s wrapped in Dunlop DIREZZA sport rubber. Inside you'll find a Sabelt racing harness and a BRIDE racing seat for the driver along with a MOMO steering wheel. Behind the front seats a Greddy ECU Management box is installed. Shift knob and emergency brake lever are Mazdaspeed versions. Room for two people and a bit of space for small cargo on the rear shelf. On paper the AZ-1 puts out 64hp but usually test higher. This one with the ECU management box makes more, though I couldn't tell you how much.
Few cars are as fun to drive and get as much attention as an AZ-1, less are as exclusive. 4500 total were produced. Not sure how many sets of these wheels exist out there in this size either.
