1985 Mazda 626 LX Touring Hatchback - PLEASE Read Notice In Description!
1985 Mazda 626 LX Touring Description
PLEASE READ: I posted my car for sale previously only to have EBAY cancel the listing because they indicated that Autocheck showed the car had a Junk/Salvage title which IT DOES NOT. I worked with both Autocheck and Carfax and got the error corrected. My car has a CLEAN, CLEAR Arizona title and HAS NEVER BEEN JUNKED OR SALVAGED. I have added pics of the title as well as the confirmations from both Autocheck and Carfax. If you are interested in the car and have any questions, please contact me.
For a 35 year old car, this is quite a find. Originally sold new in Canada (the reason for the Odometer and Trip Odometer being in Kilometers) This car has spent the majority of its life in Arizona. The original owners brought it to Tucson shortly after purchase and used it when they came to Tucson for the winters. 270,000 (not quite but almost) kilometers equates to about 170,000 miles since new which further equates to approximately 4,857 miles annually.
While not a show car, this car gets many, many looks and people are amazed by its age. The interior is almost showroom and when you open the doors it is stunning. No tears in the upholstery (except for one very small separation on the drivers left seat bolster. The headliner is perfect as are the sun visors. The carpet show little if any wear. The original floor mats do show some wear but suprisingly nice. No dash cracks as the car has always been garaged or had a sunshade. I added window tint and used the BEST tint company in Tucson. The rear cargo area is equally impressive.
The body is very straight and clean with a few blemishes:1 on the roof above the right door where the original owners had a Thule rack mounted2 maybe 3 very small dimples from door dings
1 small area at the bottom front edge of the left front bumperMost recently when going through a car wash, the left drip rail molding was damaged so I removed it. I have the 2 pieces and believe it can be repaired or a replacement found although these cars are quire rare.
The underside is very clean and the is NO MAJOR rust on this car which makes it very pleasant to work on.
Mechanically the car is strong. Starts very easily, idles smoothly accelerates well. Runs very cool, never gets above the mid mark on the electronic temp gauge. The AC is nice and cold and the heater works very well. The AC HAS NOT been converted to R134. When the car was new, it had the Electronically Adjustable Sports Suspension which is why the original owners sold the car. The struts were SHOT and unfortunately no longer available. Problem solved - when I got the car, I retrofit the suspension with the standard suspension components - STRUTS and COILS are all new and the car rides beautifully. Also replaced the exhaust from the back of the CAT to the tailpipe. It wasn't rusty but a seam on the muffler was separating and the tech felt it would be best to replace everything behind the cat so I did.
The one thing I know the car needs is steering rack boots, which I have but have not had time to install so they will go with the car along with various extra parts such as Tune Up components, Rear Brake Shoes, Rear Brake Hardware Kits and New Brake Hoses. The only reason I purchased them is that, if I wanted to do maintenance, I wouldn't have to wait for spare to arrive.
All power options work except sometimes the right front door lock doesn't want to lock (always unlocks) The radio antenna (manual) does not collapse entirely. The original factory stereo system is still in place - the AM/FM Stero works Great as does the Equalizer and the 4 speaker joystick for adjusting the sound. The cassette sadly does not work. Sunroof works great and do all windows, wipers work (both front and rear) as do the washers. Interesting note, this car has Headlight washers which were not available on US models. The original owner made some neat little headlight covers out of plexiglass which I believe can be seen in the front end picture.
Original owners packet.

The one thing I will definitely say is the is an original unmolested example of a vintage 80's top of the line Mazda and I believe it would make any Mazda lover happy.
