1988 Mazda RX-7 42k Miles Service History Since New!
1988 Mazda RX-7 Convertible Description
It has come time to sell my 1988 Mazda RX-7 convertible unfortunately. I acquired the car in April of this year from the second owner whom has owned it since October of 1988. The first owner owned if from January of 1988 to October of 1988 putting 10k miles on in it. I purchased it from the second owner with a little over 41k miles on it. It has a little over 42k miles on it now and I have put about 800 miles on the car just cruising around this summer. I didn't have any intentions of selling the car so soon but I am going to be trying to buy a house and need to sell a couple of my toys.
The RX-7 is being sold with 42,3xx miles with a clean WV title as well as a clean Carfax in hand. I have every service record on the car since it was new. It has been maintained by the Mazda dealer as well as a local garage that specializes in imported vehicles. The RX-7 runs and drives as if it were brand new. It starts up everything without a problem and you can drive it anywhere without a single issue. All of the fluids with the exception of oil has been changed every 5 years with the last fluid change being 2 years ago. The oil gets changed twice a year with 10w-40 Pennzoil. The previous owner has only put about 5k miles on it in the last 10 years with only 158 miles being put on it last year.
This beautifully rotary machine has been garage kept it's whole life and has never seen any kind of snow or salt. It hasn't been drove in the rain since 1995 according to the previous owner. The beautiful red paint shines almost like the day it came off the showroom floor. It doesn't show any signs of fading and the body and underside of the vehicle is completely rust free. It does have a couple of small parking lot dings and a minor scuff on the driver's side corner of the front bumper which will be pictured as well but nothing that you wouldn't expect on a car of this age. The Bridgestone tires are 2 years old and have about 1000 miles on them so they are fairly new. The BBS 15" wheels are in amazing shape as well with no curb rash or corrosion on them at all and shine just as good as they were when they were new. All of the lights work perfectly including the period correct flip up headlights. The power retractable top is in good shape and all of the seals are in great shape and doesn't leak at all. The middle section of the top will actually come out so you can have a targa top car actually if you want.
The 1.3L rotary engine purrs like a kitten and runs great! It doesn't use a drop of oil and it is dry as a bone. The only thing mechanically that has had to be replaced due to failure was the water pump a few years back. It has had a couple of oxygen sensors, a few sets of spark plugs and the hoses and belts replaced a couple of times due to age. All of the drive trainis all original and in perfect working order. The car drives perfect and rides amazing! It drives as straight as a arrow and handles the road great! Shifting through the 5 speed manual transmission is buttery smooth and is a blast to drive! I do believe the clutch is original as the previous owner said he never replaced it and there is no record of it but the clutch feels great and grabs like it should! The A/C works great and is still the original R12 Freon that is in it from the factory and will freeze you out! The heat is good and hot and works great as well. Everything on this car works perfect including the cruise control!
The amazing gray leather interior is in really good shape as well minus the fact that there is a little wear on the bottom seat cushion on the driver's side seat as well as some wear on the driver's side floor mat but other then that the interior is pretty much spotless and looks amazing! All of the electronics including the power retractable top works flawlessly. All of the carpet is still very plush and in great shape. The dash is free from fading and any cracks of any kind. I do want to note that the headrest speakers work intermittently. The previous owner said it has been doing it for years. He had the amplifier replaced in it at one point because they had done the same thing before and they worked fine for a few years and then started doing the same thing again. That's only electronic feature on the car that does not work properly.
It will come with all of the original manuals, service record, both factory keys, the gray leather top cover that covers the top when it's down, the BBS center cap wrench for the BBS wheels, clean WV title in my name and a clean CarFax in hand.
I do have over 80 total photos of the vehicle that I can send to anyone that is interested! I wish I could post more of them on here.
The RX-7 is truly a beautiful car that is rare to see anymore and I love taking it out on sunny days with the top down and listening to the rotary engine exhaust note! The next owner will be very pleased with this beautiful piece of history. This RX-7 was purchased for a little over $25k when it was new so this was probably a car that you didn't see on the road very much when it was new. I am going to miss this car dearly. I have owned a couple of Miatas in the past and this RX-7 is definitely more fun to drive for sure. I'm sure I will regret it but sometimes life gets in the way of your fun. This car is going to be sold with a no reserve auction with the starting bid of $6000. I am located close to 2 airports if you chose to fly in and drive it home which wouldn't be a problem at all with this car. I am located near Yeager Airport in Charleston, WV and the Tri-State Airport in Huntington, WV. Arrangements can be setup for me to meet you at the airport or pick you up and take you to the car. Anything I can do to make it easier for you I will try to accommodate.
