1977 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Description

Hi. We are a European repair shop helping a customer sell his 1977 Mercedes 450SL. I will give a detailed description of every aspect of this vehicle.
This vehicle is to be sold "as is."
We have provided disclosure on the vehicle based on our experience and price point of the vehicle. Please have realistic expectations and don't expect a perfect car.
High lights:
- CA Car. Garaged or under a carport its entire life.
- Working a/c
- Reliable driver
- Over $2000 in services including new tires, brakes pads, rotors and calipers, drive belt, driveshaft flex disc, brake hoses, rear swaybar links
- Have both hardtop and soft top and they are in very good shape.
- Passed smog 6-9-2016. Less than 100 miles ago. Should pass again should it be needed.
Exterior body and paint:
- Vehicle was repainted at some point in its life. Appears to be single stage paint and a quality repaint at the time. There are no peeling or flaking in the paint and presentable...but it could use a polish to bring it out.
- There is a spot of paint chip (1"x1") on the edge of the driver's side door that was touched up. See picture provided.
- There is a spot of paint chip (2"x2") on the driver's side fender near the. See picture provided.
- A antenna was drilled into the rear trunk lid and surface rust is forming around the hole on the inside of the trunk lid
- There are a few bulbs next to the emblem on the driver's side of the trunk lid. See picture provided
- No structural rust found.Undercarriage is free from rust other that surface rust on the exhaust system and minor surface corrosion. See pictures.
Interior condition:
- Dash is crack free but there is slight deformity(not very noticeable)
- Driver's seat has crack in on the bottom cushion and couple tears on the back rest area. See picture provided.
- Soft top is in very good condition and works as it should
- Hard top is in very good condition and the headliner is clean and free of damage
- A/C works. I tested it on a 70 degree day and the compression kicks on and its blowing 50degrees. I cannot attest to how efficient it will be on a 110degree day.
Mechanicals:
- Vehicle undergone over $2000 of service and repairs in the past 200 miles to make it safe and road worthy.
- Engine starts right up most of the time. Sometimes it would take a few extra cranks= most older Mercedes will exhibit this condition and it doesn't effect reliability or drive ability.
- Engine is smooth and strong. No misfire noticed during acceleration or at idle.
- There is a slight exhaust leak somewhere and you can hear it when the car is idling. This did effect the car's ability to pass the last california smog test so its not something major
- Transmission shifts great ice cold and when at full operating temperature.
- No driveline or differential noises or vibrations.
- Brakes stops straight and does not exhibit abnormal behaviors
- Suspension feels controls and in usable condition. The rear swaybar links were making a clunking noise and we replaced both rear swaybar links and the noise is gone.
Overall driving impression:
- For the age, miles and price point, I would rate this car as a above average .
