Offered today, a rather nice example of a Mercedes-Benz 300TD - TurboDiesel wagon.
The Mercedes-Benz star logo ... known throughout the world for build quality, longevity and luxury
Through the following photos and descriptions (there are many as there is nothing to hide here), I'll attempt to show what a well cared for vehicle this 1984 Mercedes-Benz 300TD station wagon is. Please view all the photos and read the descriptions ... then decide for yourself if this the vehicle for you.
This Mercedes wagon was originally purchased directly from Germany under the 'European Delivery Program' - fly in, drive it around Europe and then ship it home.
A wonderful experience all in all for those that can.
A full US spec. car with the added advantage of a European vacation.
So practical is the Mercedes TurboDiesel wagon that is has now achieved a cult following.
Quality, style and practicality are a combination that's hard to beat.
'Diamond Blue' is the name of the color ... understated yet elegant.
A Mercedes-Benz ad from 1995 showing the complete range of these 'E-Class' vehicles.
The wagon configuration was the most expensive of the entire range of body styles for this year.
Known among Mercedes aficionados as the W123 series of cars, these rather special vehicles were sold with various body configurations and engines - 2-door coupe, 4-door sedan, and the 300TD wagon - with the 300TD wagon being the top of the range.
From any angle the classic lines of these Mercedes-Benz wagons is timeless.
Several years ago, I purchased this 300TD from a physician here in Maryland.
He, intern, had purchased it from the original owner, another doctor who was the original owner who took advantage of the Mercedes-Benz 'European Delivery Program' in 1984.
The 300TD TurboDiesel version of the wagon was only available for four years ... 1981 - 1985.
I love this photo as it shows the car so well.
As the old adage says, quality comes at a price.
In this case, $36,393 US Dollars. A ton of money for a car in 1984 - worth it though.
Run this figure through an online inflation calculator and it works out to whopping $84,500+ in 2016 dollars.
Having the original 1984 dealer's window sticker for this wagon is sure a nice bonus.
This not only shows the substantial price but all the included accessories for this vehicle.
A Mercedes-Benz promo photo showing the production line for these W123 vehicles.
The interior is as clean as a whistle throughout - trimmed with Mercedes' optional blue leather.
The leather seating is in nice condition and shows a nice patina that is only acquired with care and age.
The cabin is trimmed with exotic 'Zebrano Wood' accents throughout.
This photo also shows the console mounted shifter for the 4-speed automatic transmission, the power window and power mirror switches, the automatic climate control and the original 'Becker' AM/FM/Cassette sound system.
Odometer is working - reads 173,717 actual miles (only 5,430 miles / year average).
Rear leather seating is also in good condition as shown.
The net seat back pockets are quite handy on extended trips.
All four door panels are in good condition.
And, a look into the spacious cargo area ...
A promotional photo showing just one configuration of the adjustable seating layout.
Plenty of room for most anything you'd wish to transport ... luggage, groceries, antique store finds?
The spare tire looks to have never been on the ground ... the original 'Pirelli' tire is still mounted.
The right side compartment contains the rear washer fluid reservoir, jack and tool kit.
Mercedes-Benz Roadside Assistance' ... for the life of the car.
Original and complete tool roll with the basic Mercedes tools - open ended metric wrenches, screw drivers, pliers and the tire iron.
Now for a look under the hood ...
5-cylinder, 3.0 liter, turbo diesel, fuel injected engine ... simply bullet proof by all standards.
All neat-n-tidy and well maintained.
New high amperage battery just added a couple of months ago.
Wouldn't we all want to have this chromed version of the turbo diesel engine in our vehicles?

The following is a series of photos of the various details of this 300TD wagon ...
Tires: Very recent - Matched set of 4 'Yokohama AVD Touring-S' all season radials
Size: P195/70-R14 - 95%+ tread remaining
A couple views of the manual sliding sunroof.
A lovely feature you'll use often.
A view if the entire headliner.
Grab handles on all four doors.
Rear door with power window switch ... the front windows are operated from the center console switches.
VIN tag located on the driver's side 'A' post.
Left side rocker panel.
Right side rocker panel.
A period advert.
Door handle ... Chrome and hard wearing carbon black plastic - no button, just pull to release.
A few views of the optional roof mounted baggage rack - one call haul a lot of baggage here.
Note: Hard to find cross bars. Many were lost along the way ... these are original to the vehicle.
Polished chrome side view mirror ... one of two.
Intact hood vents ... no cracks or the like.
A nice view of the grill and USA spec 'Halogen' headlights & fog lights.
Trunk mounted Mercedes-Benz logo and a good view of the paint color and pinstripes.
This 300TD was repainted several years ago under the previous ownership. The paint is not perfect and has some road chips and minor scratches that can't possible be shown in photos like these. It's won't take the trophy at a Pebble Beach event but it'll sure turn your neighbor's heads.
Luckily these doctors were good enough to hang on the original showroom sales brochures for these now 32 years ... a huge plus in my way of thinking.
Three separate brochures I all ... one 1984 from when this 300TD was originally purchased from the local Mercedes-Benz dealer with pickup in the Fatherland through the 'European Delivery Program' ... and, two 1985 brochures received from the selling dealer upon their return to the US after the new model year had changed.
Also shown, the brochure showing the various services of the 'Roadside Assistance Program'.
Along with the before mentioned sales brochures is a complete set of Mercedes-Benz literature that was provided to the original purchasing owner of this 300TD wagon.
Literature includes an up-to-date maintenance log as well as the original metal 'Identiplate' used by the servicing dealer for service records. Nowadays these service records are kept on computer for all dealerships to have access to.
This is the 250,000 KM (155,342 miles) grill badge presented by the Mercedes-Benz 'High Mileage Awards Program' for this 300TD ... it has yet to be mounted.
Well, a few additional photos to wrap up the tour of my 1984 Mercedes-Benz TurboDiesel wagon.
Let me know if you have questions; I'll be happy to answer all that I can.
Phone calls would best for a timely response as my online time as somewhat limited.
It's not 'perfect' but as nice example of a 32 year old well cared for Mercedes as one could find.

Full disclosure is what I'm after here .... I want you to know what your buying.
This Mercedes-Benz 300D is not perfect in every way ... it's very close and as fine an example of the model that one could ever expect for a 31 year old vehicle. There are minor imperfections as one would well expect ... very minor indeed. Some very slight paint chips and a few very minor scratches that can't possible be shown in photos like these. It's not new but it's very nice, indeed.
If there is something I haven't covered please feel free to give me a call at 410-310-3543 ... or drop me a line via E-mail. Phone calls are preferred as I can go into a bit more depth answering questions due to time constraints.
