This car was purchased as a demo car in 1989 by what was technically the second titled owner. The second owner owned this car from 1989 to 2016 andcandidly, in my years of collecting these cars, I have never seen anything quite like it. When I purchased this car, I asked for service records. I got a twenty poundbox that looked more like a capitol murder case file rather than adissertation on the cars' history. This man took notes EVERY time he put gas in the car, fueleconomy, brand of fuel, ambient temperature, ect. The car was taken to the dealer every 90 days, not 100 days, 90 days, for a oil change, even if the car was only driven 200 miles. I added up the servicerecords, and n 27 years of ownership, a staggering $37,000+ in service. This owner was neurotic, to a level I have never seen. I put the car on my hoist, and the underside is as nice as the top. Icouldn't understand why it wasn't dirty. I called the long time owner and he indicated that he put the car on his lift and cleaned the car everySaturday.
Needless to say, the original paint is virtually flawless, thickness is about 4mm throughout, which is perfect for a original paint R107. Everything works, there is not a faulty dash bulb in this car. The veneers are perfect, the seats and floor were covered for 27 years. The seats are supple and powdery. The seats are so nice, you'd think they were reproductions,albeit they are originals.
The car fires right up and runs like aSwiss clock. brakes are perfect, tires arenew. Yep, the owner replaced the tires every 5 years, even if he put 5000 miles on the car, because he did not want old tires on the car.Battery that is a year old too.
Suspension, everything is in like new shape, anything that ever needed servicing was replaced. The timing chain and guides werealready done.The car had the heads rebuilt because he noticed a "hint" of smoke on start up at 80k miles.
There is not a belt or hose that needs replacing, everything on this car is first rate.
The basic SL questions need not be asked on this car. It is absolutely rust and corrosion free. No, it does not need anything, yes everything works, the A/C is ice cold, the dash is perfect. The glass is all original. Every panel has its' VIN sticker in place. The hard top is perfect as well, stored in a bag.
Yes, I priced this car higher than my other cars. Why? Well, its' Signal Red and Palomino. Secondly, the car is not normal. I have a 20k mile 560SL and this car looks better and drives better.
As far as price goes...come look at the car, if you can convince me what is wrong with the car and why I should take less, I will consider it...but that won't happen...
