Here is a 1993 Mercedes Benz 300sd W140 Turbo Diesel with the 603 engine and 185,472 miles. I picked this up to go along with my other diesels (2- w123’s, w124, w126, w210) but I need to slim down my pack! It has newer paint job and looks pretty good. The body looks great and the interior isn’t perfect but for being 24yrs old and tan I can tell it was taken care of. It runs good and rides good but the turbo isn’t boosting correctly. It's from the south so there isn't any rust. It has a new PA inspection! There is a push button start! It’s definitely a nice car if you put a little work into it. Please watch the video. I went over the car pretty good in it!

Mechanical:

The 300sd is in good mechanical condition minus a boost issue. I have a few diesel Mercedes am fairly familiar with them but this is my first w140. It runs as though there isn't any boost. The EGR valve is shot. It does not hold any vacuum. That is about as far as I got in diagnosing it and that does cause the ecu to cut boost. You'd have to start there. It does have the #18 head which fits any 603 engine. I’ve seen the heads sell from $500-1500 alone. It also looks like the wiring harness has been replaced-see video. The suspension is tight and drives very good down the road. The front tires are about new and the one rear tire is good and the other has some uneven wear- Had used tires put on the rear so its not from the car. It isn’t leaking anything major by diesel standards and the injector pump is dry. This is an older diesel Mercedes please do not think it will be a spotless engine bay. The valve cover gasket has been changed recently. The belt tensioner shock is making noise and should be replaced -$25.

The issue I am having with the car is boost from the turbo. I did dig into this a little bit and the egr is shot. It drives like my w124 300d did when the vacuum line fell of the ALDA. I am not very familiar with troubleshooting the w140 as I am the 123,124,126's- all mechanical and no electronics. I have replaced all the vacuum lines and it did make a little difference. I am in the middle of a w123 project and decided to let this one go before I put too much time in it- I probably won’t even get to it for a few months. The guy I bought the car from said it had an engine swap. Have no documentation for this but the fitment of the turbo seems off- see video. The block is not stamped by the fuel filter so I am at least assuming it had a reman put in at some point. There isn’t a tag on the bell housing either. It is definitely a om603 engine but I do not see any numbers to confirm it being a 603 3.0 as was hinted to me.

Interior:

The interior is in good shape for the year and mileage but it does show some wear. The Head unit in the video has been removed. All of the wires are still there and it'll be easy to hook another one up. No Cracks in the dash. It’s mostly on the front seats- See pics & video. The front storage compartment stays open. All of the windows and locks work. It does have a push button start after the glow plug turn off. The climate controls are a little finicky at times. The Ac does not blow cold but I do hear the compressor turn on. The sunroof does not work. It’s a common problem with these. All of the seats work. Not too bad for being 24 years old. Again please look at all pictures and the video.

Exterior:

The exterior is in good shape. It has a newer paint job and looks really good. There is a scratch on the rear bumper- see pics and that about the only major thing on the outside. The wheels are in nice shape. Please look at the video and pictures for a better look.

Overall this is a nice w140. Fix the boost issue and you'd have a nice diesel!
