1960 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series Description

This is the very beautiful 1960 Mercedes-Benz 220SE Ponton coupé and is the last year this particular series was built. The car was in production for only 2 years and there were only 830 built which is less than the cabriolet making it a very limited edition and extremely desirable car. This is a unique opportunity to own a very original car with the matching original engine transmission, interior, exterior (including paint original never painted), with the original 98,350 miles.

I am the second owner. The original owner passed away in 1985 and the car was passed on to his daughter.The owner originally purchased the car brand new on December 23, 1960. The family, therefore, has owned the car since it was brand new. I purchased the car from the daughter in October of 2013.

This is an original, non-touched nor restored, rust free California original car which has never been painted. It also has the original interior. Gray/red leather and comes with the original tools, spare tire, wood footstep, 2 sets of keys, complete service records, and the original Owner’s Manual Books and pouch.

Please pay attention to the photos which show that there are a few small dents on the molding and there is scuff damage on the left rear quarter panel which resulted when the owner was driving out of her garage. This scuff damage has been addressed with touch up paint which you can see from the photos. The paint is still the factory paint and still shiny and presentable—does not need a new paint job. I did not want to repair and fix the paint because the car should be kept as original as possible with its patina look of a collectable item.

All the leather interior (seats and door panels) and woods/dashboard are in good condition with the exception of small wear on the rear carpet. Headliner and sun visor are in excellent shape and have been untouched. All the glass is in good condition with no scratches--all original. All the chrome including the window chrome, mirrors, front and rear bumpers are also original and in good condition.

There is no evidence of any leaks or seeping. Equipped with a powerful 6 cylinder line 2.2 injection original engine with 115 horsepower and 4 speed manual transmission. The engine runs very strong and smooth like a clock with no smoking and just a few months ago there was oil change and service and I had the car professionally detailed and washed the undercarriage and engine compartment. The undercarriage is very original and free of rust. The car has been well maintained and has always been kept in a closed garage.
