1982 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class 380SL Description

1982 MERCEDES 380 SL
83,345 actual documented pampered miles as of today and I am still driving it on occasion so that could go up a little.
TURN THE KEY AND GO!!! TURN HEADS AND SHOW UP IN BIG STYLE FOR LITTLE MONEY!!
EVERYTHING WORKS DOWN TO THE POWER ANTENNAEAND ORIGINAL STEREO!!
Probably the nicest one you will find outside of a museum!
Sweet smooth little V8 purrs and has ample power. Cranks up immediately, runs smoothly, and makes no odd sounds at all. No smoke or leaks anywhere. Transmission engages, shifts up and downshifts perfectly and smoothly. I have noticed when the car is very cold, there is a slight slip between 2nd and third gear changes, but goes away as soon as the car is warm. I have heard this is intentional on these and it doesn't worry me.
Sure, you can buy a junky one of these for $5-8K, but I guarantee you, you will spend thousands more to get it even close to the condition cosmetically or mechanically of this BEAUTY!!!
This car has spent the majority of it's life in California and Arizona.
Service records of everything it has ever needed or been done since 1986!
Clean CARFAX report and I believe it to be the original paint with no chips or scratches to be seen!! Soft top appears to be original with no rips or holes and only shows wear on two small spots of the fabric near the back window from being stored.
Original books are all there. Top removal tools are there along with original spare and tool kit/jack.
No cracks in the wood, dash, etc. Interior shows as new and almost no signs of wear. Seats, carpet, door panels all look new.
There are two very slight dings that have to be looked for and can only be seen at an angle. They could easily be removed without paint work. The hardtop fell over on the stand and the chrome trim on the driver's side got a could dings in it. Otherwise, the car looks as new!!
Underneath the car, the door jams, trunk, under hood, etc. shows no rust or signs of previous damage.
A/C converted to R134 and blows cool, but probably could use a recharge
Interior show almost no wear other than the driver's window switch and still smells like new. Never smoked in and no signs of abuse anywhere.
Here are some of the more recent repairs/maintenance:
  • new timing chain, valve cover gaskets, chain tensioner, cam shaft oiler kit (@ 80,180 miles)
  • new steering coupler (@ 80,800 miles)
  • new tires and wheels (@ 76,440 miles)
  • new brake pads, sensor, and caliper kit, wheel seals (@ 76,211)
  • radiator hoses, radiator overhaul (@ 76,211 miles)
  • water pump (@ 80,493 miles)
  • battery
  • dash bulbs, vent actuators (@ 80,800 miles)
  • heater blower motor
  • climate control box rebuild
  • cruise control amp
  • more, more, and more

I bought the car with intentions of letting my wife drive it on pretty days to go shopping, etc. but she was "scared to drive it because it's too nice".I have driven the car about 300-400 miles total, to dinner a few times, a couple of events and weddings and occasionally to work when it's nice out.
The car cranks immediately on the first turn of the key and idles perfectly. Shifts into gear smoothly, brakes well, steers well, and runs perfectly. There are no creaks or rattles and it drives true down the road. No leaks anywhere. All lights work and look good.
I would get in this car and drive it out of town without a single bit of hesitation. Cruises smoothly on the highway and drives like a dream in town.
This is a car that will appreciate over time and a great investment that you can enjoy today! We have too many cars and it really needs a new owner to enjoy it more!
I have tons of more pictures from under the car and inside the car. Feel free to call or email me directly @9014284911 David. Ill be happy to text you any specific photos you may want or even video of it running/driving.
You are responsible for all shipping costs, but I will try to accommodateyour trucker to the best of my ability.
I am open to independent inspections of the car for only serious buyers.
