1976 mercedes 280
1976 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series Description
Up for sale is my '76 Mercedes 280, Fritz. It is in very good shape with NO rust (You NEVER find these without rust), great paint and trim. Interior is good, with very nice upholstery, door cards and dash. It will need carpets and a headliner, and like most Mercedes of this era, it will need seat pads. There are a few videos on u tube showing how to do this on the cheap. The factory Becker Europa radio works very well as do all the accessories except central locking ( vacuum line issue I think). The AC blows cold and the power windows work well.
The engine is the 2.8 liter twin cam 6 (M110) that runs very well. These have a solex 4 barrel carb (Q-jet copy) that has a bad reputation, But this one is rebuilt with no warpage. The car will need a valve adjustment soon (as do all of these, an easy fix), a little noisy, but doesn't effect the drivability. The exhaust has a loose clamp, but also an easy fix.
It comes with 16" CLK wheels as well as the original steel wheels (14") and color matched hubcaps (see photos). This is a great road car and very comfortable on long trips. I have taken it to Boston(9 hrs each way) and Myrtle Beach* hrs each way) recently, and Chicago last year (12 hrs each way). I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere.
I put a new battery in it 6 months ago. It will need a directional switch, which I am getting. ($50.00 part).
Overall a very nice restoration project or a classy, fun daily driver. I looked for years to find one in this shape. I am only selling because I am getting a 1971 Mercedes SL and don't have the room for two toys.
Please feel free to give me a call on my cell show contact info . If I dont answer right away, leave a message and I will call right back.
Just a note: This car will not be released until payment in full has been made and has cleared.
