1971 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Pagoda Description

1971 Mercedes Benz 280SL Pagoda

In 1971, Mercedes produced 830 models of the W113. In January and February of 1971 ( the last two months of production for the W113)only 300 cars were manufactured. This car was built in the final month of production (February), making it arareand desirable car. Adding to it's uniqueness, this car comes with the Pagoda option meaning it comes with two tops; a newsoft top and a hard top.
This particular 280SLhas gone through a complete restoration with attention to every detail.It wasbrought downto bare metal and then repainted in it's original color of Dark Olive green. The allnew interior was kept in it's original Cognac color and allwood trimming were restored to its original glory.The Floor and Trunk pans were replaced with the finest quality.It has its original Mercedes tool kit located in the trunk.

All chrome was replaced along with a New Front Windshield, New Shocks, New Brakes and New Tires.

Here's a list of additional parts which have been replaced on the vehicle. All parts were new and imported from Germany;

- Fuel Tank

- Fuel Pump

- Front and Rear Chrome Bumpers

- Front Grill

- European Headlights

- Taillights

- All New Rubber Seals around the Doors, Trunk and Hardtop

- New Headliner for the Hardtop

- New Soft top

The Engine and Automatic 4 speed transmission were completelyrebuilt and overhauled by a German Master Mechanic whose passion and knowledge is strictly Mercedes Benz. The block is anon-matchingnumbers but it's an original Mercedes Benz 280 block off a coupe. Replacement blocks were a common practice in the 1970's due to transport issues between Germany and North America. Out of convenience, Mercedes owners chose to have parts switched rather than enduring a long wait for parts from Germany.

The restoration took many years to complete. It started as a project from one of my relatives who passed it on to me to complete. I've owned it for a little over a year and ahalf. This car is apleasure to drive and is a definite crowd pleaser.
I have pictures which show the car's original state before the restoration and some pictures of the progression of the restoration itself. I have posted many of them here and will gladly email the rest to whoever inquires.

With the exception of a small nick which happened during thetransport ofthe vehicle, itis in beautiful condition, a dream to drive and an absolute show stopper. An exceptional piece of German historyfor the discerned buyer. This model is a blue chip investment with its value continuously rising fromyear to year.
