1979 Mercedes 300d DIESEL
1979 Mercedes-Benz 300-Series 300d Description
I bought this car a few years ago and got it running. I put a lot of new parts on it. Including alternator, alternator bracket, 2 rear axles, 4 tires, upgraded glow plugs, fuel filters, battery, belts, brakes, bulbs and a bunch of other things. It ran great and my daughter was driving it to school everyday and she loved it. I was driving it one day and it stopped running. I determined the fuel filter was clogged up with rusty debris. I changed the filter and drove it home and it clogged that filter up fairly quickly. I determined the tank either needed to come out and be relined or replaced and that is as far as I got. It has been sitting in my back yard for over a year and I think I'm done. It has a lot of great parts on it. The engine ran very good, the transmission shifted fine and no slips. It did have a habit of starting off in second gear and my mechanic adjusted the shifter linkage and it started to shift perfect after that. Towards the end, I noticed it had gone back to starting off in second gear again. Needs to be adjusted again. There are only 2 rust spots on both front fenders. There is a little surface rust here or there and a ding on the left rear quarter panel that woody woodpecker tried to fix himself (wasn't me, it came that way!). I noticed that a mouse had taken up residence in it this past winter, so he may be included in the deal. He may be willing to pay rent but we didn't get into any specifics. That's up to you. Very many good body panels and the interior is in really good shape for the age of it. no rips but the cushions are typical of mercedes of that vintage. I'm selling it no reserve and you need to be aware that it should be towed home. I will help load it as much as I can. If you have any questions, I will be happy to let you know everything I can about the car. I am very fond of these old girls. I was in the car business for 13 years and have owned 15 or 20 of these old cars and just love the way they ride. I have a 300 td wagon that I used to do short hops around town, so I would say I am qualified to say that these were some of the most awesome cars ever made. The level of quality compared to the other stuff being made in 1979 is not even comparable! I guess thats why this car was in the $35,000 range when it sold new. You could buy a house for that in 1979, hell, probably 2!
My name is Sparky and if you have any questions feel free to call me at 757.651.5533.
Thanks for looking and good luck!
