1992 Mercedes-Benz 300-Series 300 SL Description

Hello and thank you for looking at my auction. My name is Joe and I sell vehicles differently than most dealers. Buying your next car or truck through one of my NO RESERVE auctions is the best way to take the games out of your next automotive purchase. I personally road test each vehicle before it is offered for sale so I can give you my first hand opinion of how it runs and drives. Please keep in mind that I am not a mechanic. Each vehicle is represented accurately and honestly to the best of my knowledge and ability. Please take the time to read this entire description as well as our Terms & Conditions carefully BEFORE asking questions or placing a bid as most answers can be found in at least one of those places. An administrative fee of $149 will be added to the final bid of each auction.

Up for a NO RESERVE auction is a 1992 Mercedes-Benz 300SL, finished in classic white over gray. I would rate the exterior of this 300 SL to be in AVERAGE CONDITION for its age and mileage. As you can see, this is a good looking car. In fact, the only thing keeping it from getting a higher "Joe Rating" is a few physical flaws. As you can see, there are a few pieces missing to the grill and a piece of trim is missing from under the right headlight. Also, the front bumper is damaged slightly on the same side. There is a little damage to the RF fender (under the lip) and a deep scratch on the rear of the trunk lid. As a whole, the paint shines wonderfully and looks as smooth as glass. This 300 SL has obviously spent it's life in a garage. I originally bought this car to pick at the few little cosmetic issues as I love the R129 body, but I've been on a mission to clear out little pet projects and toys I can live without...so this 300 SL is looking for a new home. All of the glass and lenses are intact. The original alloy wheels show well. The rear tires are pretty thin so I'd look to replace the tires soon.

I would rate the interior of this 300 SL to be in ABOVE AVERAGE CONDITION for its age and mileage. The interior shows that this 300 SL has been kept indoors. The door cards are clean and tight. The wood veneers show well. The veneer panel on the passengers door isn't in the best shape, but better than most. The carpets are clean and full looking throughout the interior. The leather seats are in very good condition for their age and show minimal wear. Both power seats work (except the drivers head rest). The right window won't go down. The power mirrors work well. The climate control system is fully automatic and appears to be working properly. The heater works well. It's been in the low-mid 40's lately so I can't say for 100% that the a/c works but I think it does. The original radio has been upgraded with an Alpine CD player, which powers up and appears to be working properly. The antenna doesn't go up, but I'm guessing that's because of the aftermarket radio. This 300 SL comes with two original master keys and two small keys. The hard top is in good condition. I tried to get it to release but it wouldn't. I could hear it trying but it wouldn't pop the latches. It has been sitting for 7 months with the hard top on. I can remember back a few years from an SL600 that I owned for a while that the top was always a little contrary first thing in the spring so it probably just needs a little more patience and effort and it'll do what it's supposed to do.

Mechanically, this 300 SL appears to be in good running and driving condition. The 3.0L inline six cylinder engine starts easily and runs smoothly. I didn't notice any leaks and the engine does not smoke. Her road manners are good for an older car. The suspension feels tight and well sorted. Steering and braking feel good, too. The engine feels strong and smooth, as a straight six should. She keeps perfect temperature and normal oil pressure. On occasion, the ASR light pops on...but this is probably from sitting in my warehouse since Septemper. Again, she needs driven and used regularly. The automatic transmission engages smoothly and shifts properly with no issues. Out on the highway, she drives nice and straight with no complaints. If you're in the market for a classic R129 with the desirable (and hard to find) inline six cylinder engine, this 300 SL deserves your serious consideration. The odometer appears to have broken a gear when the tripometer was last reset, which is very common. It's not too hard to fix, and not very expensive either. It has been on my list of things to do, but I never seem to have the time. I checked mileage on the title and last inspection and it looks to have broken recently so the mileage shown shouldn't be too far off from actual mileage, but there are most likely a few more miles on the car than shown. I hope she goes to a good home. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding.
