NO RESERVE: 1984 Mercedes 300TD Wagon Touring
1984 Mercedes-Benz 300-Series Turbo Diesel-Touring Description
In 2014 I bought a one way ticket to Tulsa from SC to purchase this lovely wagon. I have not regretted a moment since receiving her. Of course these great wagons are known for their legendary reliability, utter simplicity, and classic killer looks. My 1984 currently shows just 205,xxx miles and is driven a couple times a week. She boasts a well operating HVAC, with cold air and hot heat. All dash gauges, including the super accurate quartz clock work beautifully. An after market boost gauge, installed discreetly on the A-pillar, shows the health of the turbo. All lighting works well, though instrument lights seem a little dim. The M-B Tex seating surfaces are in great shape. I have not been able to source a proper replacement dash pad, so the original, with its few cracks is present. When I bought her, the previous owner had installed a plastic dash cover, this was removed and discarded as I prefer the original with all its "warts". All windows work well, central locking does not.
Operating the car reveals immediate starting in all conditions, acceleration as good as these cars ever knew, transmission shifts are quick and sure, some of the ubiquitous vagueness in the steering is present but she tracks super straight and stops firm and sure. There is no detectable blow-by and no exhaust smoke on start-up. Cruise works. The SLS suspension works as designed.
The exterior shows the common tan paint that is shiny and clean with few, if any blemishes. I believe there has been one respray in her life. Quality of the paint is 8-9/10. Sheet metal is straight and true. Of note, is the damage history on carfax from 2014. I bumped another car in heavy traffic at about 10 mph, causing the fender damage in the pic that is posted. This was repaired by a local custom shop using an original M-B fender sourced from ebay. The quality of the work is impeccable.
The front sunroof seal leaks a bit if run through a carwash or if caught out in a heavy downpour. All drains, however, are clean and operate well. There is ZERO rust anywhere on this car. Tires are 90%. Liftgate stays up in position when opened.I have over $6700 in receipts for work done in the last 35,000 miles including a total transmission rebuild!
All that said, she is still a 34 year old car and though she is a fun daily driver that is very reliable and a pleasure to drive, there is no warranty available. Thanks for looking.
