1983 Mercedes-Benz 300D W123 Turbodiesel Sedan
1983 Mercedes-Benz 300-Series 300D-T Description
For sale is my 1983 Mercedes-Benz 300D Turbodiesel sedan. I have owned the car since January of 2016 and have done a lot of work to it in the meantime. But before I get into what’s been done to the car; some history... The car is a W123 chassis (’77-'85) and this particular example came out of Arizona. As far as I know, the previous owner bought it from someone in Scottsdale,Arizona and then moved to Columbus, Ohio where I bought the car from him. When I found it, the chassis had 206,000 miles but the engine had a severe knock (possibly run low on oil… neveractuallyfound out what happened). So, now we’re up to January of 2016, when I trailered the car home. It went directly into my garage and I immediately pulled the engine out of the car. At the time, I had another engine from a 1984 300D that ran extremely well but the body of the car was Ohio-native garbage. So, I swapped the engines and have been driving the car ever since. Here’s a breakdown of what I replaced when I had the engine out of the car:
Front Suspension/Steering/Brakes-L & R tie rods-L & R upper control arms-L & R balljoints-L & R lower control arm bushings-L & R wheel bearings-L & R shock absorbers-L & R rotors & pads-Front tires-Master cylinder
Engine/Drivetrain-1984 OM617 Turbodiesel engine-Glow plug relay-Engine mounts-Engine shocks-All engine gaskets and seals aside from rear-main seal-New Monark injector nozzles-Oil pan & drain plug-Water pump-Thermostat-Coolant expansion tank-V-Belts-Rebuilt 722.3 4-spd automatic transmission-Transmission mounts-Drive shaft flex-disks-Center carrier bearing & support/mount-CV axles
Rear Suspension/Brakes-Sway bar links-L & R rotors & pads-Brake calipers-Rubber brake lines-Rear tires
The body and paint is completely original and as far as I know, the car has never been in an accident. The damage to the front lip was done before I bought the car and is the worst part of the body.
Issues with the car as it sits:-The power locks will lock immediately upon request but one of the actuators leaks-off and won’t unlock by itself.-The A/C was deleted when I swapped the engines so needless to say, it does not work.-Although the original paint looks amazing from afar, it is checked and will eventually need a re-spray.-The windshield and rear-window gaskets both need replaced. I have both but just never had the time to install them. They will be included with the car-
To finalize, this car has been impeccably taken care-of, especially the last couple of years. it drives phenomenally and I wouldn’t hesitate to drive it across the country tomorrow. With that said, I do drive the car every day - expect for Ohio’s winter months, the car has NEVER seen a salty road - and it has honestly been the best car I’ve ever owned. I change the oil every 3-5K (full synthetic Mobil1 5W-40 and Mann filters only) and have records of everything performed in the factory maintenance booklet. Happy bidding and I hope you’re able to win the car!
