1993 Mercedes 300SD / S350 Turbo Diesel
1993 Mercedes-Benz 300-Series Description
MERCEDES 300SD / S350 Turbo Diesel W140 - Very rare S Class diesel in excellent condition as shown (1 of 3900 imported 92-95). Per the Carfax it's had NO ACCIDENTS and I'm the second owner having purchased it in Texas in late 2004 (will email on request). I have meticulously maintained and upgraded the car while I've owned it and recently achieved my goal of getting the Mercedes Benz 500,000 kilometer mileage award and grill badge. I'm selling itbecause I just bought a 2012 S350 Turbo Diesel.
I spent $6K on the beautiful gloss black paint job (just paint - no body work). I then obtained from a 99 S500 Grand Edition (1 of 600), a set of original factory AMG 18x8.5 wheels as shown designed specifically for the W140 chassis. I even have one for the spare. I have also upgraded the headlights to look modern in addition to LED tail lights with an S600 grill. The sound system uses the factory German built 11 speaker Bose amp (also rebuilt) setup linked to a premium Sony AM/FM/XM/SACD/DVD dash unit with the optional Sony 10 disc CD changer in the trunk and USB 96k/24bit input from my Android on the phone holder. It sounds stunning especially when the 4 rear deck subs kick in. It also has a Bluetooth link with auto mute tied to the Sony and a backup camera via the rear view mirror display that will also show DVD videos. Another words it has all the modern features.
I religiously changed the oil every 3K using Mobil Delvac diesel oil and fixed anything that was needed. EG I had the entire upper engine completely rebuilt for over $6k at 170K with the updated head gasket (the OEM had issues), new timing chain with new guides, lifters etc. At 175K the tranny was rebuilt as was the turbo at 185K with new high performance injectors installed. Over the years I've replaced every suspension component at least once as needed. The leather seat bottoms were redone a few years ago and I just spent $1,100 on a tune up letting my mechanic go through it completely installing a fresh set of glow plugs, fuel return lines and replacing the brake fluid. All the fuel, oil and air filters (including cabin) were just changed along with the serpentine belt. The car was aligned this summer, the AC was serviced which blows ice cold and the Michelins have good tread.
It was rated conservatively at 20 MPG city 24 HWY by the EPA. However I average 21-22 city and have gotten 28MPG freeway fully loaded with four passengers doing 70mph with the AC on. With the standard 100 liter / 26.4 gallon tank the cruising range is outstanding.
Being an S-Class it has numerous standard luxury features; power windows, parameter power steering, power tilt and telescopic, power 4 wheel ABS disc brakes, 12 way power leather seats with 3 memory settings, double-paned soundproofed glass, sunroof, dual air bags, cruise control, dual climate control, leather seats, rear passenger illuminated vanity mirrors, soft-closing doors & trunk. In addition this model has acceleration slip regulation (ASR or posi) traction control and an aftermarket matching Zebrano wood shifter knob.
I get a lot of complements regarding how great the car looks. No one can believe that it's a 93 model with 319K miles on the odometer because of all the upgrades. I calculate that I save $2-3K a year driving this verse the gas version and best of all YOU DON'T HAVE TO SMOG IT. In addition any parts are easily available on EBay.
The car is mechanically sound, the body is straight with no rust and it drives like a dream nice and quiet with plenty of power. The leather is good, the dash has had a cover and has no cracks and the door panels are all decent. The Zebrano wood isn't perfect but looks good overall save the console piece which has some minor cracks. One issue is the factory tint coating is beginning to peel a bit on some windows. Since it's cheap, I've decided that the next owner can choose what darkness level they would prefer to have if and when you want to replace it. The paint is no longer new but it still looks great and I've had any dings or chips repaired as needed which is easy to do with gloss black paint. Lastly a couple of the wheels have some edge road rash. In conclusion if you would like to own a unique black beauty Mercedes S-Class that gets great mileage for a very reasonable price - here is your chance.
