1988 Mercedes 420 SEL
1988 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Description
This W126 S-Class is my daily driver. It’s a powerful, smooth-running example that is a credit to Mercedes engineering from the 1980s. My commute has recently doubled and this car isn’t really right for the job anymore so I’ve got to let it go.
It has about 214k on the odometer and runs beautifully. Burns no oil, leaks no fluids. Engine runs cool and quietly and accelerates smoothly and shifts smoothly as it should. The transmission is only a few years old. Climate control works perfectly. A/C compressor is brand new. The list of new parts on the car is very long—I have been through this car comprehensively as I use it for long road trips with family. New shocks all around. New brake pads all around. New front brake rotors, wheel bearings and seals. Rotors are high performance cross-drilled spec for heavy traffic/mountain driving. Tires are all new, less than 3,000 mi ago. Belts are all new, and hoses only a year old. Lots of other new parts.
The car is originally a South Coast car from Fletcher Jones MB. I have all service and maint paperwork on the car from the end of its original lease onward. It’s been partially painted at some point but the finish overall is in great shape. There are some reasonable nicks and scratches from 30 years of faithful service. The car passes CA smog easily. Interior is clean. Floor mats are new.
All gauges and instrumentation work correctly. All lighting works correctly. Power seats, windows, central door locks, trunk lock, power telescoping column all work correctly including seat memory. The cruise control works but not well. Sunroof is inoperative.
The engine oil even stays clean between changes—I can’t highlight enough that this car is mechanically solid. I wouldn’t hesitate (and I don’t) to drive it on remote trips. The wheels are newly powder coated and rear-balanced so they look clean. The car goes to new seller with a box of spare parts in the trunk.
Unique features: Pioneer audio with DVD & SiriusXM and Apple CarPlay is integrated into the strong OEM audio system. There’s a custom center console with cup holder and dual USB ports for phone charging. Great for the daily grind.
Feel free to send me any questions. Test drives welcome on evenings & weekends. I will work with your shipper. I’ve got more invested in this car than it’s listed for; it will therefore take good care of you and your family...in the Mercedes fashion where engineering used to take priority over style and feature content.
Thanks!
