1973 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Description
Arizona Project Car! No rust, perfectly straight body. Registered 09/1972 - Euro Everything!
Professional certified Mercedes Benz shop assessment available (I can email the link).
I'm a 56 year old female who bought this car as a daily driver because it is my dream car, unfortunately I don't have the ability/mechanical resources to restore it to the degree it deserves.
The car cannot be driven in it's current condition.
I am the 4th official owner; I purchased it 02/15/19, from a lovely gentleman who had it stored in his AZ garage for 14 years (all rubber, seals, mounts, etc need replacing due to it sitting for so long - sadly), who bought it from a man who had it stored in an aircraft hangar for 10 years - there is no information on the original owner. This car has been consistently kept indoors for 24 years!
What I know about the car; the engine and transmission check out good, shouldn't have any issues with either... it has both covers, the cloth cover was replaced in 2004 and (I am told) was only used a handful of times, it is in perfect condition excepting a slight tear (about 1" at the very bottom where it caught on a piece of metal when opening. The hard top does not have a cover or cradle. It has two sets of wheels (spoked and solid) but neither is the correct size for the car and need replaced. The tires are rotted, we had to replace one of them just to trailer it from Tucson to Phoenix). All the exterior trim pieces are present, chrome is in great shape, rubber could use replacing but not necessary. The paint is not factory original, the car was originally blue but was repainted - cheaply and badly - the paint needs a cut and buff or complete redo, but it is a beautiful color! The interior is in desperate need of attention; the good news is the dash is in terrific shape, minus a slight hairline crack (see photo). The seats are sat-through and need a rebuild/recover. Full carpet replacement needed.
I have additional photos and can take more if needed. I also have the original manual and receipts from the past two owners (fun history to read) and I have two keys. The shop (in Tucson) who did a Buyer's Assessment for me indicated it was completely straight, no panel gaps or twists and had no signs of rust. The heart-breaking part of the story is that it was not driven, although well-intentioned, it was the worst thing the Seller could have done for the car - and for me, personally.
Please, serious inquiries only... having to sell my dream car is hard enough!
