1974 Mercedes Benz 450SL
"Sport Leicht" or Lightweight Sport refers car capable of driving at high speed for long periods of time. 1974 was the era of Mercedes-Benz over engineering the vehicles they built, and this car is no exception.
Years of use have left this car with an overall well-worn patina. Interior is showing some age, and an exterior finish of repaint that was performed several years ago. The good news is a potential buyer is starting with a car that if restored will always increase in value, because of the period it was built.
Exterior
Overall fair condition Dolphin Blue paint covers the exterior. Panels are straight, and show some blemishes. A close of the doors results in the Mercedes-Benz thud, and quality of build is still there with consistent gaps, and soundness. A matching removable hardtop is on this car, and with the flick of a few screw mounts using a special tool provided, the top can be removed for that wind in your hair experience. The soft top could not be put up because of a locking mechanism malfunction with the metal soft top covering. Authentic MB vented steel wheels are all around. Headlights show clear, and functioning. The underside views of the car show no visible rusting other than on the surface of the catalytic converter. Normal wear underside is present with nothing visually remarkable.
Interior
Blue leather buckets with iconic MB headrests sit comfortably in a sea of blue carpet that is somewhat faded. The leather shows slight wear in the driver's seat. Dash, and steering wheel are all in original condition, and an aftermarket stereo is seen with speakers mounted into the rear of the car. Power windows power steering, cruise control, power locks, and power brakes are present. All but 150,000 miles have been logged, and are believed to be original mileage.
Drivetrain
A fairly clean and un-corroded engine compartment reveals a stout 4.5 Liter V8. Mercedes had to go with their low compression engine to meet ever more stringent US Emissions regulations. This engine is backed by a 3-speed automatic transmission. DIsc brakes are noted all around with fronts being ventilated, and rears standard
A project car with a solid base for a restoration as these cars retain their value if restored. Or a daily driver that can cruise all day and not break a sweat. Despite some aforementioned issues, the car is solid, and cabin be driven right off the lot and into your driveway.
