1983 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class 380SL, Both Tops Description
1983 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class 380SL, Both Tops. Condition is Used.
I don’t have the space time or interest in getting this car to its former glory... I just need it gone. I’ve described the car as objectively and honestly as possible, but if you see something I’ve missed, or you have a specific question, let me know and I’ll do my best to answer. Look at my feedback and history, I’ve been E-baying for a long time and have no interest in misrepresenting this or any other item. I also do not play games, so please look at all the pics and ask all your questions before you place a bid. This car is being sold as-is and where-is. A $500 deposit is expected within 24 hours of the auction’s end. If no deposit, contact, or arrangement has been made in 24 hours I will cancel your bid and relist the car. Happy bidding!!!
Body: good condition overall, has an old resprayed area on top of drivers fender, which is now crazing. The rest of the body looks great, original and straight.
Tops: factory hardtop in great shape, but does have small dings in the trim where it was set down without the proper top storage rack. The soft top was rarely used and is probably in great shape, but I haven’t seen it in 20 years.
Transmission: functions great, shifts normally.
Interior: Both seats have torn bottoms and have tape on top of them, then furry covers over the top of that. Dash and wood in much better than normal condition. Odometer shows 77,664mi but has stopped working, so I have no idea of the actual miles. Power windows work. Carpets are far better than most. Door panels are great. Rear view mirror has some de-slivering.
Suspension: Car rides well but does have some slack in the steering.
Engine: after being stored for about 8 years, I changed oil and filter, installed a new battery, and installed new plugs, but it has a miss now and will stall at a stop while in gear. I drove it 10 miles to a warehouse to store it with no overheating or other dramas, except for the miss. It DOES have the upgraded dual-row timing chains. The engine DOES have good working vacuum system, so the door locks and other vacuum related things work. Yes, it does leak some oil, not hemorrhaging, just leaking.
Tires: This car was stored for about 8 years, so they are old. Regardless of the tread depth, they need replacing.
Brakes: They work fine and are not sticking or fading on the ten mile trip since storage. Pedal is firm and high.
