1977 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class 450sl Low Miles, Tool Set, New Soft Top, Runs Great
1977 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Description
This is a beautiful car but it is not perfect. Please read the description carefully! I want no one to be disappointed! I have hundreds of pictures highlighting the good and any issues. I can see no rust in the usual areas, inner wheel fenders, trunk outer fenders, rear floor pan, engine compartment, drain holes and spare tire. There are two minor very small surface rust spots. There are several touch up spots done by the previous owner. All of this and more can be supplied with hundreds of pictures I have. Ebay only allows a few pictures. Ask me anything about this car! I am retired and do this as a hobby.I acquired this car last year at an estate sale from an eighty year old lady whose husband had died five years ago. It had sat in a garage unattended for the past eight years. She said her husband bought his "pride and joy" from the original owner almost 40 years ago and has been in Tennessee since then. The car was delivered to Davison Motor Car Co., Freehold, N.J. on July 20, 1977 and has service stamps to 21,126 miles. The car, other than sitting for so long, looks like it has been well cared for. It has, what is believed to be, the original paint with touch ups to scratches, nicks and some spray paint applied to both rear fender lips by the previous owner. No evidence of any accident damage although there are some small dents. The weatherstripping around the trunk, windows and hood is still soft and not hard like most cars of 43 years. Seats, which are MB-Tex, have no wear at all. The original hard top and headliner are in excellent condition. The soft top is newly installed this year. See the list of work done over the past year below. The engine is very strong with lots of torque and runs at normal operating temperature. No issues with a cold or warm start. The odometer reads 42,347 miles and believed to be original. It is in working order. The speedometer is sticking. The original muffler has a few pin holes so the exhaust is slightly louder than normal. I have put approximately 10 miles on the car. The air conditioner has the original R-12 and is very weak. Heat does work. Power windows, windshield wipers and washers, signals, horn, clock and power antenna all work. I replaced an aftermarket cassette player with a period correct non tested used OEM Becker am/fm radio which needs to be installed correctly to work. Original German loop carpeting in good shape with some fading caused by aftermarket floor mats. The dash does have some cracking with some color matched filler. Original tool kit and manuals included. This car is by no means perfect but most of the required work needed to be done for an original car sitting for a long time has been done. A few tires have some cracking and need to be replaced. The new owner should not have much left to do to own a real treasure.Work done to vehicle:Eight new fuel injectors with sleeves, Spark plug wires, Spark plugs, Water pump, Thermostat, Upper and lower radiator hoses, Turn Signal relay, New battery, All fan Belts, Distributor cap, rotor, Radiator flush, Fuel tank flush, Fuel pump, Fuel tank strainer and exit hose, accumulator, fuel filter, fuel hose, New starter motor solenoid, Rebuilt warm up regulator, Cleaned and tested idle air control valve and replaced air slide valve hose, Cleaned and tested cold start valve, Oil change, oil filter, air filter, transmission fluid change, power steering pump re-sealed, power steering fluid change, New rear stabilizer link, Replaced aftermarket radio with OEM used non-tested Becker radio not yet installed, New soft top and full weather seal kit, Sun visors have been re-foamed.
