380 SL CONVERTIBLE ROADSTER 63K MILES ORGINAL PAINT NEEDED

1985 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class 380 SL Description

1985 Mercedes Benz 380 SL for parts or restoration. The car is in-operable and will have to be towed or flat-bedded from S,Fl. Engine spins over freely, lights, turnsignals, flashers, horn and brakes are functional. Side windows non operable, did not attempt diagnosis.

Clear Ohio title documents decades-long ownership by current owner. A few service records found in vehicle indicate service at Cleveland MB dealerships. Owner is experiencing health problems and is moving to FL. For more pictures at higher resolution go to my photo server at:

63K miles from new. Car was driven occasionally for past 25 yrs by current owner until fuel pump failure about 18 months ago. Battery was non-functional and has been removed and not replaced. Surface rust on body panels was sanded and skinned over in anticipation of a re-spray which obviously has not happened.

Inspection Summary

Car is very solid and complete.

Missing only one trim piece from the front fender.

Rubber piece seen missing from front bumper is in the trunk.

Underside is solid including unibody and suspension.

Exhaust system is solid at the back but sheetmetal shrouds on front half have rusted away

Outer sheet metal layer of front muffler is delaminating

Doors open and close smoothly, no sag, good panel gaps as shown in photos.

The removable hard top is in excellent condition with very good glass, trim and headliner.

Windshield is un-nicked, door glass is all good

Interior is complete, with even driver's seat showing minimal wear.

Other seats are firm, un-blemmed and complete with the chrome bolsters showing nice.

Soft top is in place in the boot but was not inspected

4 Michelin tires showing good tread but age-related weather checking on un-damaged but fades original wheels.

5th wheel is OE, never out of trunk, with OE Michelin tire

OE furnished MB first aid kit, un-opened and still in trunk

Note: the body shop did start preparing the car for paint, so the car is almost ready for painting now, will post a pic
