Mercedes Benz 1971 250C Chrome Bumper Rare Coupe Dual Solex Matching Numbers
1971 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series Description
Thank you for considering my wonderful and yes, quite rare, chrome bumper 250C. This car has sat in a heated garage since 1998 where it was driven in and parked. Upon removal of the car from its hibernation of close to 20 years, I have done an initial assessment of its general condition and have found the car to be a rather nice example, well worth returning to its original glory and beauty. The mechanicals are all original including its original engine and dual solex carburetors. The automatic transmission shifts on the column, not on the floor as you might expect. The car is a US production vehicle including its 50 state ID plate forward of the radiator shell. The engine oil is clean, clear and full. The radiator is full of coolant and there are no apparent leaks of any fluid here at my house and from the garage floor where it sat for so long. Its owner indicated that he simply parked it the Fall of 1998, and never returned to use it again. I believe the mileage to be accurate given the rather short life of its use.
As you might expect, there are some rust issues on the front floors as well as the left side of the trunk. These are not major and can be sorted out easily with patch panel replacements. The important stuff is all solid. Floor carpets are missing and naturally would require new ones. Otherwise, the interior is in remarkable condition. The tires are 5 matching, all hold air well and seem fine for this years season to drive on. The glass is is all original and in excellent condition. As you would expect with any quality Mercedes, the doors close like a vault. Two of the wheel covers are from a different car, I would simply repaint them all, including the two spares provided.
As far as the running of the engine, the battery is a current replacement, the lights and electronics appear to work, however I have not attempted to run the engine. I believe it would be wise to begin with fresh gas and work your way forward. These engines are known to be among the very best ever built by Mercedes. Feel free to call or text me at (914) 403 1768.
Now with respect to the exterior. There is a good size dent on the drivers door. However, if I get around to removing the interior panel of the drivers door, I may be able to return it to its original shape. The side moldings are provided. The paint is shiny and the color is among the most desirable.
So, with some well directed energy and resources, this car can return to the road and see light of day for years and years to come. The value of the Coupes are climbing right behind the Pagoda models. The 2.5 is actually a rarer motor than the 2.8 and yet delivers similar performance. With its short chrome bumpers, the car looks very Euro! Please contact me via cell or text at (914) 403 1768.
The car is located at my home in the scenic hamlet of Bedford Village NY, just 42 miles North of Times Square. New York State did not begin to issues titles until 1974, therefore, the car is legally sold on a transferable registration and an affidavit of bill of sale. If transportation is a concern, I am able to recommend one of the most reputable movers in the nation for a free estimate. Transport Masters/ David Lempert.(561) 482 7789.
