1987 Mercedes-Benz 560SL Description

The Mercedes 560SL is highly desirable because it's the full wish list in one car. These are elegant, powerful, comfortable, timeless and nimble classics. It only gets better in a very original example with a great factory color combo and the right late-model upgrades. The now legendary R107 models designation are iconic because they represent an era when very few companies could build a convertible without worrying about safety regulations. Mercedes built their cars so robustly that the R107 exceeded these standards, and they did it elegantly without an unsightly roll bar. It was the go-to driver for celebrities, dignitaries, and the wealthy because the sleek lines hid a full size interior and usable trunk that was perfect for any road trip. The Germans understand how to engineer a deep rich black paintjob so well that it still looks fantastic many years later. So that's why we suspect the factory-correct paint is also factory-original, too. But it takes more than precision engineering for a car to look this good nearly 30 years later. You can tell particular care has gone into this convertible by the way the body has remained looking crisp and the factory wheels are free of curb marks.Very few colors go so well with a black exterior than a tan interior, and it only gets better with this level of preservation. The carpets, dashboard, and wood grain center console basically show no signs of sun damage a near impossible find in a classic droptop with a highly original interior. The dual bucket seats are in great condition for their age and offer a level of all-day comfort that is unmatched in some new convertibles for twice this price. The 560SL was one of the most expensive cars Mercedes offered during its reign, and so the features list is quite long. This includes desirable conveniences such as power windows, power locks, power steering, cruise control, and provisions for air conditioning. The stereo has been upgraded to an AM/FM/CD unit with an auxiliary input so you can listen to the most modern tunes in a very classic Mercedes. Because this was built 1987, there are also more modern features than most R107s, such as a third brake light and a driver's air bag. It comes with both the removable hardtop and folding soft top that match the exterior black. If you don't know how to properly stow these roofs, don't worry, because this SL comes with plenty of original reading material. The 560SL came with a big 5.6-liter V8 motor making 238 hp and 287 lb-ft of torque more than the contemporary Rolls-Royces. On the road, the R107's four-speed automatic gives it a truly crisp feeing, and the fully independent chassis is the perfect balance of elastic comfort in a tight-handling package. This was topped with four-wheel disc brakes for the best all-around control. In total, the Mercedes SL is in a class all of its own. It has always been hard to define its competitors because no other car combines grand touring comfort in a quick and nimble machine so perfectly. This example has preserved the heritage and has averaged 2,630 miles per year since new. It's hard not to get excited about complete timeless elegance for less than the price of just about any new convertible out there. But you're not the only one who sees this so it won't last long in our showroom. Call today!!!
