1972 Mercury Cougar XR7 Hardtop Coupe NO RESERVE AUCTION
1972 Mercury Cougar XR7 Description
1972 Cougar XR7. This car was the one of the last generation (1971-1973) of cougars built on a Mustang platform. It is a unique car...what Mercury called "The Executives Hot Rod." This car was originally from Oregon and it was left outside and just about everything inside needed to be replaced.... New floors have been welded in and a new trunk. The rest of the body was rust free. The car started it's life with a white exterior and ginger interior. A color change was absolutely called for.The paint was stripped and body work done before primer and 2 fresh coats of metallic gray metal flake paint was professionally applied. It's had the front end rebuilt with all new bushings, ball joints, spring perches and shocks, rebuilt power steering box, new power steering pump and hoses and new Hijacker air shocks in the rear. New sequential circuit board and flasher for the tail lights work like a charm. A black interior was next with new seat covers, carpet, dash pad, headliner and sun visors. New interior and exterior door handles and emblems, door and window seals, trunk seal rear window seal, . The motor and transmission only had about 59k miles on them and was about the only things that didn't need replacing. The carburetor was rebuilt, fuel lines flushed, fuel tank boiled, new filters, new fuel sending unit, new seals and an oil flush and filter change. The transmission was flushed, new filter and seals, new vacuum modulator and professionally adjusted by Paradise Transmissions. A new dual exhaust system from Summit racing from the stock manifolds to the chrome tips were installed by HyFy muffler in Chico. This car has tons of new parts including a new radiator and shroud, starter and starter solenoid, ignition switch, wheel well and hood moldings, battery tray, rim blow horn switch and horns, Cooper Cobra Tires on 15x8 Magnum 500 rims in the front and 15x10 magnums in the rear. Car was built to be a driver. I have put about 350 miles on it since the restoration driving it to car shows and around town. It looks and runs like a champ and turns heads wherever I drive it. It's been to 3 car shows and nobody has one like it. Car is currently registered in California until April of 2018.
