One of the cleanest customs to cruise the Southeast, this 1949 Mercury is a one-of-a-kind Lead Sled with the best upgrades and extras. 1949 Mercury Lead Sled FOR SALE - YouTube Video will open in a new window [isdntekvideo] Completely redone in 2001, this low-slung boulevard cruiser has all the right body mods, and they were professionally done and fully documented in over 75 build photos that are included with the car. The top was removed, and a CARSON removable hardtop was fit to the car after the A-pillars were cut down and properly angled for the new roof. The body was stripped of all trim and molding, it was nosed and decked, louvers were stamped into the hood, the door handles were shaved, lights frenched, and every other Kustom-styling trick was done to make the body a truly unique machine. The body is ALL STEEL, and every part of it is solid and straight. There are NO bondo patches, NO rust spots, NO dents, NO damage, and NO crushed-up beer cans. Just real solid steel that a magnet clings to. Gaps and panel fit are really good, and you can tell that much time was put into making sure the car was show ready as soon as it was finished. Paint was sprayed in 2001, and is PPG Ultra-Maroon with Moondust Gold flames delicately gracing the hood and flanks. The "Lost in the 50's" lettering on the back looks great, and ties in the flames at the front of the car perfectly. The finish is in exceptional condition, with less than a handful of tiny marks from normal use to be found on the entire painted surface of the car. These are little stone chips, a small scuff, or other light blemish, and they are all just a few millimeters in size, and almost imperceptible when viewing the car in person. I have provided 100 photo of the car from every possible angle so that you can see just how clean, glossy, and issue-free the finish is. If you need more photos, just ask. The Carson top fits perfectly on the car, and seals up like a tomb. The cream white finish compliments the interior of the car, and shows incredibly clean and issue free from front to back. All of the glass was custom cut for the car, and fits perfectly, with no cracks. Windows roll up and down easily, and they seal up just fine thanks to newer weatherstripping throughout the car. There is not a whole lot of chrome on the car, but what remains is in excellent condition, and shows shiny and bright. Lake pipes run down the sides of the car, the front and rear bumpers are tucked up real close, and the DeSoto grill insert just SCREAMS Kustom! Wheel covers look fantastic, and are shiny, bright, and clean, and the steel rims they are fitted to are wrapped in almost new super wide whitewall tires that capture the look and feel of a bygone era with the safety and reliability of a modern tire. The spotlights on each side of the car are real, and movable. They are NOT wired to the car though, for DMV reasons. Pop open the hood and you are met by a 350ci Chevy V8 that was rebuilt in 2001 with a .030 over bore, 3/4 cam, and functional Rochester Tri-Power set-up. It is connected to 350 Turbo transmission with a mild shift kit that helps you chirp the tires off the line, but lets you cruise at highway speeds without issue. Engine bay is clean, neat, and filled with enough chrome, billet, and shiny stuff to make you proud to open the hood at cruise night. Modern A/C system is R134a throughout, and blows cold air in the cabin through the Vintage SLIMLINE underdash unit. Heater is also functional and works to take the chill off on those top-down autumn cruises. Chassis is clean, bare metal, and isn't trying to "cover up" anything with gunky sprays or foams. NO RUST, ROT, OR SOFT SPOTS to be found on the chassis or frame, and if you put it on a lift and pressure-washed the light dirt and grime from normal use away, it would almost be worthy of a mirror! Front end has power disc brakes, while the rear gets power drums, and the rear suspension is set up with an air ride to tail drag or cruise at level ride height. It is great to have when cruising with 6 adults and luggage so you can adjust the ride comfort with the flick of a switch. The interior is beautiful in pure white leather with black piping and trim. Seats are rip, tear, and damage free, and even the seat backs look great when you fold them forward to access the rear seat. Armrest folds forward or flips up for a 6th passenger. Back seat is as big as a house sofa, and has the matching black pillows to compliment it! Carpet is clean, neat, and damage free. Dash is clean and painted and shows wonderfully. Clock looks great but is not functioning at this time. Original radio is beautiful, but is not working at this time. Speedometer is working, fuel, temp, battery, and oil gauges are all working, and the odometer is working. It shows 22,390 miles, but the car is sold as EXEMPT on the title. All the switches for lights, wipers, etc, all operate as they should. Steering wheel is in great condition, and looks awesome in the car! Headliner on the Carson top is clean, and the two-tone look really fits the style of the car well. Dash has been signed by the one and only WOLFMAN JACK!!!! There are a few pictures of him signing it in the photos below, and more in the stack of pictures showing the car BEFORE, during, and after the build! 8-ball topped Gennie shifter works the automatic transmission perfectly, and looks great in the car. Air Ride Technologies provided all the air ride components, including the twin switches with gauge located under the left side of the dash. Carpeted trunk holds the fuel inlet, fire extinguisher, and the air tank and compressor, along with a spare bag in case you need it down the road. The battery is located behind the rear trunk panel and is easy to access. The car is in overall fantastic condition, and is truly ready to take to a car show or cruise night RIGHT NOW! It is a multiple trophy winner, and I have driven the car on both the highway and in-town without any issues or concerns. The vehicle is located in our Fort Myers, FL warehouse, and is just 20 minutes away from Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) if you want to fly in and see it.
