1978 Mercury Grand Marquis Grand Marquis Description
1978 Mercury Grand Marquis for sale. 62,4XX miles, 460 engine, automatic transmission, power locks, power windows. This was the last year for the true "full-size" large car from Mercury/Ford before being downsized to the Panther Platform in 1979.
Now I am downsizing and regret that I have to sell my 1978 Mercury Grand Marquis. I am the third owner of this original beauty. I have purchased this car in January 2014 and had driven it less than 1,000 miles in the 3 and 1/2 years I've owned it.
I was told when I bought it, the original owners sold vehicle in early 2000s when they got too old to drive and second owner had kept car in storage for most of their ownership with plans to give to their daughter when she went to college. The second owners had put almost $6,000 into repairs and car runs and drives fine. The car is originally from British Columbia, Canada and I had it shipped it to Texas in an enclosed carrier when I moved here from there. Prior to moving, I had my mechanic go over it and make sure it could pass Texas State Inspection. In addition to the repairs made by the previous owner, my mechanic replaced the windshield wiper/washer switch, replaced the shocks, and replaced the horn (it did not work when I bought it).
Car is in overall very good original condition. It has not been in any accidents, had bodywork or been repainted. The velour seats have no rips, tears, stains, sagging, or odors (I don't think anyone smoked in it). The headliner is in excellent condition and is not sagging. Dash, steering wheel, rear parcel shelf have no cracks or damage, radio works fine. Headlight covers retract and go back down when not in use. Power windows all roll down and back up. All lights work including lighted mirror, and key lock lights. Original spare tire is in trunk with jack and wrench.
What could be addressed, and I tried my best to photograph and include-- Paint is in original condition and does have minor scuffs and blemishes (could be buffed out). Power door locks work but might need work (very noisy and slow to operate)--I manually lock and unlock the doors. Power antenna does work but sometimes needs assistance. A/C needs work as it blows hot air (doesn't cool). Vinyl roof has minor cracking near bottom of rear window, but otherwise the rest of it is in excellent original condition. Sometimes when coasting into a turn, the engine will want to stall. The rear bumper has a small dent on the driver's side and both sides of the rear bumper have some scrapes that are rusted. Driver's side front and back doors have some rusting near the bottom (not visible from exterior).
As this was a Canadian car, the speedometer has large km/h and small MPH with the odometer in miles.
Also included with the car are a bunch of extra trim parts and interior pieces that I pulled off a similar Grand Marquis with the same color interior, should the winning bidder be interested. The car doesn't need them right now, but it is always good to have extra parts as they become scarcer and scarcer. The tires and aftermarket wheels on the car were on it when I purchased it, and I do not own the original wheels (fender skirts are included but do not fit on car with the current tires/wheels). I do have a set of 4 era correct hubcaps included with the spare parts.
Car is currently registered in Texas as a Classic Auto, has a clear Texas Title.
Vehicle is located about 10 minutes west of DFW airport between Dallas and Fort Worth, TX and potential buyers are encouraged to view car in person.
Car is also advertised locally and seller can cancel auction early if a buyer is found locally.
Winning bidder is responsible for arranging transportation/shipment and all associated costs involved if buyer chooses to have vehicle shipped.

On Dec-06-17 at 15:57:16 PST, seller added the following information:An eBay member had contacted me and told me the odometer is actually in kilometers and not miles as I originally had thought, which if that is the case, the odometer reads 62,450 km which converts to 38,805 miles.
