1964 Mercury Colony Park Wagon
1964 Mercury Colony Park Description
Rare Classic Woody/Surf Wagon - Original black plate California Car! Freshly repainted in original rare Silver Turquoise. This is a dead straight, rust-free car with original 390 V8 and automatic transmission. Power steering, power brakes, power rear window and antenna. The car has been stripped down to bare metal, all glass removed and properly epoxy primed, blocked and refinished in 2 stage urethane. "Wood" has been redone with original 3M Dinoc Vinyl. All window channels, felts and door/window seals have been replaced with new. All four doors also have new glass - windshield, rear window and quarter windows are original. All stainless trim was removed, straightened and polished. All of the stainless fastener caps (the ones that look like rivet heads) are new, as are the fasteners holding the repainted trim pieces. Bumpers are in very good original condition. Hood hinges rebuilt and restored. Rare vintage 5 spoke aftermarket wheels made by Appliance (late 60's?) here in Southern California. Chrome on the wheels is not in perfect shape - you could rechrome or run them as-is. Center caps are three spoke and have deep green centers and a gold lady - I've never seen these before and am not sure where they come from? Tires are brand new (under 100 mi.) BF Goodrich Radial T/A, 225/70R14. I also have a set of original FoMoCo steel wheels and the original Factory wheel covers if you prefer the stock appearance. (I have the wheels and tires for sale separately, so if they sell before this auction ends they will not be available.)
Interior is beautifully redone in black textured vinyl with original button pattern seats and new ACC loop carpet. Headliner is extremely rare original perforated press board in excellent condition (because the flexible strips between the panels are impossible to find, this headliner is incredibly rare to find in this condition.) Interior door panels are in very good original condition, with some degradation of the foil "chrome" trims. Bottom portion of the panels have been refreshed with new vinyl. All metal garnish mouldings are repainted in satin black, with new fasteners throughout. Dash pad is original and in amazing condition - no tears or cracks. Sun visors are in perfect condition. Dash is as original, with factory AM radio (working). Power antenna is new and works perfectly.
Mechanically, the car has been professionally serviced and runs great - new Holley 4bbl carburetor with electric choke, new Earl's Performance fuel lines, rebuilt distributor converted to Pertronix electronic ignition, new coil & wires, brake booster hose, heater hoses & hardware, & transmission service. New power steering pressure line, new Interstate battery and battery tray installed. Engine starts instantly and runs smooth and quiet. The car drives well and is on its original suspension. Drum brakes all around as original.
A few minor issues: windshield is original and has some fine pitting - most noticeable when driving into the sun. 2 speed wipers work but they don't park properly. New tailgate seal was impossible to find so we did our best with the old one - it doesn't rattle but I would not drive this car in the rain anyway - it's too nice. I have noticed small drops of power steering fluid on the floor, looks like it's from the power cylinder. These are easy to replace or have rebuilt but I don't see myself having time to do it. Also if I were to keep and drive the car I would replace the shocks as the ride is a little bouncy.
All in all this is a beautiful rare Mercury that is ready to drive and show. These don't come up for sale very often so thanks for your interest and good luck bidding!
