IMPORTANT IMAGE NOTES: To fully illustrate this classic Cougar, there are well over 100 images. The first 12 images are intended to give a quick overall presentation of the car from a variety of vantage points.

Seasoned collectors and enthusiasts know that to really "know" a car, a close-up look all around the car is a MUST...so there are several sets of close-ups for serious buyers featuring the Exterior, Interior, Engine Compartment, Wheels/Tires, and Undercarriage.

To see ALL the images...you MUST place your cursor on an image - allow plenty of time for all images to download - and then scroll slowly ALL the way to the bottom.

CAUTION: if you use the scroller to the FAR RIGHT of your screen or the "Click to view image album" feature...you will NOT see all the images.

MARTI REPORT INTERPRETATION ...as we read and understand the Marti Report (shown at left), there were 64 of the 76D Cougar Convertibles which had the Cobra Jet 351 Engine AND an automatic transmission. Of these 64, only 20 of the 76D Cougar Convertibles also had the "CJ Performance Option Package"...which an internet Cougar enthusiast explained as being something additional to the Cobra Jet 351 engine (though we have not been able to verify this with any other source). The Marti Report is generally recognized as a very reliable resource among collectors, however, the seller cannot guaranty its accuracy - and any questions about the report should be directed to Marti Auto Works.

OPERATIONAL REPORT & SPECIAL NOTES...this Cougar is a very strong performer on the open road, with an authoritative exhaust note! Few cars get more "thumbs up" from admirers young and old as it is one of the handsomest of all 1970s Detroit designs.

Like most 1960s/1970s cars...today's ethanol gas is tolerated pretty well - but it's not what the engineers had in mind - so a bit of rough idling and warm-up time are just facts of life with this vintage...but it is truly impressive when it has been warmed up.

A lot has been invested to make the car enjoyable to drive, but expect some minor details that are inoperative such as...the radio, temperature gauge, and back-up lights. The headlamps/high beams, and directionals are fine. The sequential tail-lamps and brake lamps work, but not all segments are of equal brightness...this may be due to a filament being out in some of the bulbs (as they are likely of a dual-filament design).

As a special note, most cars that are over 40 years old - such as this one - undergo changes to suit various owners. Three changes that we know of are the change to a modern electric-choke Holley 4BBL carburetor, change in paint from yellow to white, and a change of interior color from "ginger" to black...likely made when the car was repainted. There may be other changes that we are unaware of.

Convertible Top Note: because they can be a bit problematic, the top's power-operated components have been removed, and the top is operated manually. However, the removed components will be provided to the new owner if desired.

2,900+ TRANSACTIONS WITH HAPPY PEOPLE! As of the date of this listing, we've had over 2,900 transactions (both buying and selling) on eBay without a single complaint. One of the keys to our selling success is the use of LARGER and MORE images than you will likely see in ANY other eBay listing...so you can CLEARLY see what you are getting.

COLLECTIBLE INVESTMENT POTENTIAL...the 2nd Generation Cougars have a loyal following and are among the handsomest of Detroit's offerings for the 1970s. Amazingly - when introduced in 1971 - these Cougars were actually a bit lighter in weight than their 1st Generation predecessors!

The 1972 model year is arguably "the one to have" from the 2nd Generation because it was the last year to feature the classic chrome bumpers...and the last year to escape the clumsy new front (1973-on) and rear (1974-on) Federal bumper mandates.

Finally, THIS particular Cougar is sure to be a "blue chip" investment among its contemporaries, owing to BOTH its status as a 76D Convertible AND as 1 of only 20 such cars to have the "CJ Performance Option Package".
