1954 Mercury Monterey Description

Up for sale or bid is one unbelievable functional piece of automotive history. 63,605 original miles. This 1954 Mercury Monterey 2 door Coupe is complete with many, many, MANY new parts. The original and NEVER pulled apart 256 Overhead Valve Y-Block V8 Runs Fantastic and matched up with it's original Merc-O-MaticAutomatic Transmission drives like an absolute dream. This vehicle, despite still needing some professional restoration work, is Registered, Insured and Inspected in my name and driven daily by myself. The car still operates entirely on it's 6-Volt Electrical System, All the Gauges Work and the car has been driven everyday by me, from the months of March to May I used the car every single day to drive back and forth about 20 miles to work, she always does good in town and highway driving and gets more compliments than any other car I've ever driven. Since I've owned this car, I've done a lot of mechanical repairs to it to get it reliable and running again. The car has a newer Aluminum Radiator, Fuel Pump, Gas Tank and Sending Unit (55' Ford Re-Production Tank), Wiper Vacuum Line, Air Filter, Fuel Filter Fuel Lines, Manual Choke Assembly, New Tie Rods, Alignment, oil change, etc. However this car is still a project, all the the car is still charming and usable everyday, it is either going to be driven by someone else who wants to enjoy it as-is or someone who can take it to the next level of restoration and finish the body work. The only out-standing issues with the car, is that:

-It has rust and rot in a few places. The front and back floors are intact however the fronts will need some patch welds due to smaller to medium sized clustered holes but are mostly structurally sound. Also the Quarter Panels and Trunk have a bit of rot, as seen in the photos.

-Due to a complete lack of parts availability for brake parts for this year Mercury, I had to convert the brake system to manual hydraulic brakes. I fashioned my own Brake Master cylinder Push Rod using threaded rods, loop bolts, stabilizing braces, washers and a 932's quarter inch deep ratchet socket. So far the system I improvised has worked very well but wanted to mention it so the buyer will know how it works.

-The Brakelights and Taillights need some new bulbs, brake-light switch and flasher

-The heater Blower Motor is not turning on, possibly a ground issue or motor just needs to be replaced.

-The Radio is not working

-Although it is not very loud, while driving and then sitting at a red light, you will get some fumes and smell from the exhaust and crank case breather pipe that comes into the cab, so make sure that until that is fixed to drive with the windows open to vent clean air.

-There is two cracks in the Driver Side Window, not broken but started to spider web (All other glass is great.

-The driver side door is out of adjustment and will swing open sometimes when making sharper wide wide turns

This is a fantastic Restoration project or Drive as-is Hot Rod or Rat Rod. A great car with a great local history. Thanks and Happy Bidding!
