1954 Mercury Monterey Description

1954 MERCURY 2 DOOR HARDTOP
You are looking at a 1954 Mercury Monterey two door hardtop . Back in the day the old Mercury's were a step above with deluxe trim in and out, sleek lines, and usually a bit better drive train. This merc has been mildly customized to capture the early days custom look. All of the side trim remove, badges remove, front fender and hood trim removed and front edge of fenders and hood rolled. The body is sprayed in a killer dark blue metallic covered in satin clear . The roof and interior garnish moldings and dash are all painted a glossy white which is a great contrast against the smooth satin finish. To keep with the early custom look some pinstriping was added. The car has been completely reupholstered from top to bottom. The top and bottom of both front and back seats were stripped to the springs and completely re-foamed and padded. Seats and door panels were stitched with pleats and pipping to give it that old school look and feel. A new white headliner was installed along with new black carpet . The interior is nice and bright and clean it really pops against the subtle satin finish. Car has been rewired front to back with a new painless wiring harness. All the lights and turn signals are in working order. speedo cable needs replaced. 3 inch radial white walls ( painted side walls ) The brakes are all new including pads, springs, wheel cylinders, master cylinder . The y-block v8 runs and sounds great . Recently completely tuned up with new plug, points, condenser, coil, cap & rotor, complete valve adjustment. The original distributor has been swapped out for a 1957 style distributor which have better advancing built into them. During the tune process a new oil pump was installed and the carburetor rebuilt. Starts right up and idles like a sewing machine. The transmission is a three speed manual overdrive that shifts great. Runs and drives out goodThis is not a frame off super high dollar car by any means . The stainless has some dents and dings, door handles and A posts are pitted, there has been some floor pan repairs and rocker repairs done to the car at some point in its life. The repairs all seem solid and have never been a problem . Car has been lowered in the back with drop blocks . The car has a small oil leak that I never worried about. lakepipes are not hooked up . This is a cool mild custom you can throw the family in that doesn't cost as much as a house . You don't see the old mercs everyday and this one has the right look and feel .
