1962 Gasser Used Automatic
1962 Mercury Comet Gasser Description
Tall, flashy, and exceptionally fast - gassers are a cool unique era in custom classics that command attention simply because they tower over the other cars at the shows, literally. So when you want to be recognized even in a crowd of standouts, then you need something unique like this 1962 Mercury Comet with a big block Chevy and dual four-barrels. There's only about 2,000 miles on this build, so it has nice and crisp look. Obie's Ol' Skool Garage is more than just a fun logo. This was created by that shop's owner for his wife, and so it's a first-class build. Gassers were all about shedding weight and transferring force to the rear wheels. So this correctly has the front bumper removed, and high solid axle installed (and don't you just love how the world can now see those headers with the exhaust cutouts?!) All the details are great like the Moon Eyes stickers over the headlight plates and the bright race gas can. But even as a race-ready gasser, this Mercury also keeps a little flair. The full matte black treatment really filters your attention to the full-length side trim and the glossy red hood accent with carbs sticking out. The classic Cragar SS skinny wheels up front look great with the classic polished steelies in the back. The overall effect is a gasser that is ready for the winner's circle everywhere from a drag race to the car show. Inside is more of that premium feel with the gasser's edge. It starts with cool set of red and white striped seats. The bold red presentation continues on the carpets, door panels, and dash. This makes for a fine-looking classic, but you also instantly know this is a racer. The straight alloy panels on the doors and upgraded steering wheel are nice performance pieces. The auxiliary gauges and full switch panel below the dash are race-ready. The engine bay is filled with big block power. It's an impressive 454 cubic-inch V8 borrowed from a '68 L88 Corvette. It breathes through a set of 427 heads and has been upgraded with a wicked cam, dual Holley four-barrel carburetors, a hi-rise intake, Champion aluminum radiator w/electric fan, and Hooker headers. You've already seen how great that last feature looks through the wheel wells, but what you might not notice, is that the full dual exhaust exits behind the doors. This gives the pipes plenty of time to create a monstrous roar, or you can just open the cutout covers for the ultimate experience. Making sure that all this power gets to the ground properly is a stout TH350 three-speed automatic with a 3,500 RPM stall for the optimal power-band. While wide drag radial rear tires keep the rubber on the road, the upgraded front disc brakes help you keep it all under control with ease. Here's a complete gasser package for both show and go. At an obtainable price like this, we know this cool classic will be rumbling its way out of our showroom soon. Call now!
