1981 Mercury Zephyr Z-7 aka Ford Fairmont
1981 Mercury Zephyr Z-7 Description
Clean car! Good candidate for V8 swap. 3.3 liter inline 6 cylinder. New pinion shaft seal and heater core. I was unable to get one of the nuts to thread from the evaporator core back onto the ac line due to it being a tight space to work around; It is the nut to the right near the firewall pictured. I also scratched the paint accidentally in the process. I don’t know if the ac works since I have not had it charged. While taking the dash ASSEMBLY partly off in order to make space to take out the heater core, I noticed some damage to the dash assembly at the area by the front windshield; there are some pieces of plastic cracked off so some of the areas to mount it near the windshield are missing. The blower motor for the heater/ac is noisy after I reinstalled it. There is seepage of oil at transmission pan gasket. I can also see a little coolant at the head gasket near the firewall. It might need a thermostat AND/OR water pump due to the coolant boiling after the engine has been idling. Minor blemishes on paint and chrome. Small ding on right rear fender. Needs headliner.
Heater blows hot. AM radio works, and it has one speaker mounted in the center of the dash that works. All lights and signals/flashers work. Cruise control works. The car was lowered 1 inch by cutting the springs by previous owner. All the brakes are good. Wheels are off a 70s Ford Capri. Doors close like new. Windows rolls up and down. Glass is good. Rear defroster works. Cigarette lighter power supply works which I use it for various things such as my IPOD and speakers. Paint and vinyl top good. Interior looks like new.
I don’t know how many owners the Zephyr has had. It has a dealership tag on the rear trunk from Foss in Colorado Springs which has been long gone. And it looks to have been in Arizona at some point because there is a Kristi’s auto shop sticker from Sierra Vista, AZ on the inside door. Car passed emissions in 2017 up in Denver. Starting bid $3000 and no reserve. Happy bidding!
As of right now, the car is parked outside with a for sale sign. Bid to WIN, and park it back inside!
