1950 Mercury Club Coupe Description

1950 MERCURY CLUB COUPE

At NO RESERVE auction is a rare, unmolested 1950 Mercury Club Coupe in stock condition with restoration well under way. Many rare like new and NOS parts are included. The car is complete, but now partially disassembled for restoration. Restoration and Condition Report are as follows:

ENGINE:Fresh rebuilt original 8CM 255 cubic inch flathead V-8 with .030” bore, new pistons/rods/rings, 4” Merc stroker crank machined to .010” under, new main & rod bearings, stock camshaft with Johnson adjustable lifters, new NOS carburetor, rebuilt 6v generator. Engine and chassis from the firewall forward have been cleaned and detailed, along with the exhaust manifolds. The engine has not been started since rebuild, but is turned over regularly.

CHASSIS and SUSPENSION: The chassis from the firewall forward has been cleaned and painted chassis black. The floor pans, trunk pan and spare tire well are exceptionally clean, as is the frame and cross members. The suspension has been rebuilt with new kingpins and all steering and suspension components cleaned, checked and replaced where necessary. All brake lines are new, along with new wheel cylinders and master cylinder. Brakes work perfectly. A new wiring harness has been installed.

EXTERIOR was originally M-14323 Laguna Blue Poly. The original paint still shows nicely on the firewall, but most of the body has been primed. The front clip has been removed and both front fenders have been straightened and primed. The rear ¼ panels have been removed and have had some bodywork and priming done. The body is very straight and rust-free with the exception of common minor rust behind both rocker panels and at the lower area ahead of the front doors (see pics). A pair of new inner and outer steel rocker panels are included. All the glass is original and in good useable condition. The car DOES NOT have fender skirts.

INTERIOR seat upholstery, door panels and headliner are in fair to poor condition and will need replacement. The original dash is in nice condition; the original speedometer, which read 76,000 miles and was believed to be actual, has been replaced with a NOS factory speedometer that reads 0 miles. The original steering wheel and horn ring are in very nice condition. Options include Touch-O-Matic Overdrive transmission, rare factory back-up lights, AM radio and heater.

PARTS and TRIM: The stainless steel side trim is complete and in very good condition. The tail light bezels show some pitting and could be used as-is or re-plated for show. The front and rear bumpers have the optional front and rear bumper guards and all are in good condition but will need some minor straightening and re-plating for show. All the stainless window trim is complete and in good useable condition. A set of 4 exceptionally nice original hub caps are included, as are 2 very nice chrome headlight rings, trunk emblem with key, and accessory fuel door trim. There are too many other clean used, new and NOS parts included to mention.

My elderly friend has owned this car for decades, having purchased it as a complete running and driving car from the original owner in Sioux Falls, SD. He’s reluctantly reached an age where he no longer has the time or energy to finish the project and has asked me, a fellow Merc owner, to help him sell it. The car now has a clean and clear Minnesota Certificate of Title and is stored in his garage in Cottage Grove, MN 55016. The 24 pictures tell you everything you need to know about this rare find, but please contact me if you would like to schedule a time to see the car in person before the auction ends. The $8500 NO RESERVE starting bid is MUCH less than what has been invested in this great project. If you are the winning bidder, upon receipt of payment in full, it may be possible to store the car in his garage at no charge for up to 60 days after the auction closes to allow time to arrange your transportation. Payment in full is due within 7 days of auction closing. Payment may be made in cash or Cashier's Check from a major bank. The car is sold AS-IS, WHERE-IS with no warranties whatsoever. This is a rare opportunity to build one of the nicest bone-stock 1950 Mercs in existence. BID EARLY AND BID OFTEN!!!
