1955 Mercury Montclair Sun Valley Description

1955 Mercury Montclair Sun Valley

You are viewing one very special Mercury. The Sun Valley model is a very rare car in deed in 1955. Only 1,700 or so were built with very few remaining that exist today as a fully complete running and driving car.. A very difficult car to find. The car has been owned for 15 years with the build starting in 2008 and finished in 2010. 20K miles have been driven on the car since the restoration was finished. The car has had some minor alternations to make the car more reliable and drives very nicely. Very reliable and great for long trips and tour cruising.

Please read on for more particulars of the car:
Body/Paint:
The build began as a very clean and rust free car with only one small patch panel on the left bottom rear left side behind the wheel. Under 100k original miles when project was started. The rest is all original Mercury steel. Taken down to bare metal. Continental kit is after market. Paint is original color combo when new. Base/clear and wet sanded to a very nice finish and buffed. Shows very nice with the car being a multiple local car show winner.

Interior: The interior is restored as stock with some cool options. Correct two tone with correct material. Dash mounted signal light magnifier. Correct era swamp cooler. PS, PB, PW, power seats. Other options: push button auto lube for the front suspension from inside the car in non working condition. Very cool and unique. Tissue dispenser and clock that works. Items added: Digital radio mounted in glove box with USB, 3 speakers. The rear speaker grills are original. Fold away under dash digital gauges, Temp, oil, volt and vacuum. Lots of interior chrome that looks beautiful. The power seat doesn’t work at the moment and is due to the wiring incorrectly hooked up. All the components are in operational condition.

Running Gear: Original driveline to the car is all restored and rebuilt. 292 T block V8 with a Holley carb and stock air cleaner redesigned to use a paper filter and adapt to the carb. A 59 Merc spread bore intake manifold was used to work with the Holley carb. Converted to 12 volt with electronic ignition and using an alternator. The engine runs excellent. The Mercomatic transmission is stock and rebuilt shifts as it should all three speeds. The rear end has tall hiway gears and has been rebuilt.

Suspension: The suspension was restored with anything that needed attention. Front suspension components replaced. Blocks were used on the front and back to lower the car. It can easily be brought back to stock height.

Bright work: All chrome was done except the hardtop trim surrounding the side glass, which are presentable. All stainless was repaired and polished inside and out. The interior chrome was all restored as well.

Glass: Windshield has been replaced with the rest of the class original to the car. The see through top has been replaced with a better than new aftermarket tinted clear acrylic, which won’t check over time. They were reproduced in Canada by a guy who makes bubbles for helicopters. It is very nice and correct.

Exhaust: Dueled off with flow master style mufflers with correct optional exhaust tips.

Brakes: 4 wheel power drum brakes in good working order updated with two bowl master cylinder and booster.

Wheels/Tires: Stock steel wheels with correct stock hub caps on 225/75 15 radials in good condition with lots of rubber.

Updates done to the car (all original parts come with the car):

Converted to 12 bolt, electronic ignition, circuit breakers used on window switches, after market two bowl brake master cylinder and booster, Holley 570 CFM street avenger carb. All original parts that were replaced with the parts listed are available and come with the car including a correct unaltered air cleaner and intake manifold.

Summary: If you are seeking a very rare Merc that is a sorted out higher end driver this car is worthy of your consideration. The Sun Valley model is the car to own. Fun to drive and gets lots of attention. Striking color scheme and the clear top just sets it off. Don’t miss out on this rare hard to find car.
