1953 MG TD
s/n XPAG26540
Red with Red Interior
The MG TD, and its predecessors, the TA, TB, and TC, are in many ways responsible for the American love affair with the sports car. American servicemen stationed in the United Kingdom during the Second World War saw, drove, and eventually owned these nimble and entertaining little cars, showing an entire generation that there was more to motoring than brute force and large scale. With this enlightened point of view, Americans returning from overseas brought their appreciation of small foreign sports cars with them, and cars like MGs and Triumphs found an audience here in the postwar years. As buyers became wealthier, they found their way to more expensive foreign sports cars, and so the success of cars like Jaguars and even Italian and German cars in the United States is in large part built upon the MG T series cars.
This particular car is a 1953 MG TD, nice old California car fitted with overhead cam Ford 4 cylinder motor and all syncro 4spd, probably in the seventies. Fantasy Junction sold the car to the previous owner in 1987. He used the car until about 2005 and then stopped driving it, and parked it in his garage. When he went to get it going, the brakes were sticking from non-use. Fantasy Junction purchased the car, and we bought all six new wheel cylinders and new soft brake lines, but have not tried to get it going. It has a lovely Les Leston wood wheel. It is solid and essentially rust free. It should be an easy project to get going, and have a fun car with a much more robust motor and better gearbox than original.
Car comes with its original black CA plate, number LUZ 939.
