I purchased the MG from the long time owner this past year. He was a true MG enthusiast and enjoyed it as his weekend driver. Approximately 10 years ago after he retired, he decided to embark on a cosmetic restoration on the GT. The MG was originally from Tennessee and I was told that the MG did not need any rust repair. It essentially had a repaint and any minor body work that was needed prior to painting. The subsequent years have been spent finishing the MG after the body restoration. The MG has seen very few miles since the restoration.
Mechanically the MG is in excellent running condition. Shows strong oil pressure at idle and no evidence of oil burning. The previous owner was told that a new clutch had been installed prior to his purchase. A new clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder were installed during the restoration process. The differential was removed and serviced with new limit straps installed. The differential and leaf springs were cleaned and painted prior to installation. Rear brakes were serviced at the same time, however the brakes should be gone through completely. SU carbs were professionally rebuilt however is could still use some minor tuning. The MG does mark it's territory in the garage with some misc oil leaks. Always starts easily at the pull of the choke. There are no issues with the charging system and the battery has never needed charging. A modern style fuse box was installed as shown in the engine compartment pics. Exhaust system is in good condition with no issues. As the pictures show, the engine compartment is very tidy and the engine is very clean and not covered in oil. The cooling system is working as it should with no issues. The engine runs at operating temperature. Engine runs strong and the transmission shifts as it should with no issues.
Body: As the auction title states, the MG is a completely rust free. It originally came from Tennessee, and I was told that it still retains the original rocker panels including the factory rocker seams. The underside of the MG and wheel wells are all pristine showing no evidence of many miles being driven since the paint work. The original color was Citron which is a brighter yellow as can be seen underneath the front carpets. The previous owner decided to go for the more desirable classic "Primrose Yellow" which is considered one of the best colors for an MG. The paint work looks very nice and would be considered driver quality as opposed to concourse paint work. The pictures truly speak for themselves with regards to the body condition and the underside which show fantastically. The original hood prop was upgraded to a pair of shocks which make opening the hood much easier and puts less stress on the hood. The grill is in beautiful condition. The paint work was completed in 2012.
The interior is in beautiful condition. New correct door panels were installed. New window gaskets were installed at the same time. A new carpet kit from England was sourced and has a great fit. The previous owner sourced a pair of Miata seats to install due to the perfect fit and excellent comfort and support. Both of the seats are in good condition - the driver's seat has an MG cloth seat cover fitted. The headliner is in good condition. License plate lights are not hooked up. Seat belts not installed. All gauges work fine including the speedometer and tachometer. Oil pressure and temperature working as they should. Fitted with a beautiful wood steering wheel.
The MG is being sold in "as is" condition with no warranty expressed or implied. I cannot be held responsible for any errors or inaccuracies that may have been inadvertently been provided.
