1950 MG TD Description

This is truly an absolutely incredible car. Purchased new in 1950 by a wealthy gentleman for his daughter to go off to college at the University of Texas/Dallas. The car remained with her for her entire life until her passing at age 88. This car is a treasure in that it has never suffered any damage, never had modifications of any kind and never was used or stored in any inclement weather conditions. From new it appears the car had some nice accessories installed, the rarest being the Arnolt engine dress-up kit consisting of a polished cast aluminum valve cover, engine side cover and twin air cleaners. Also this car has correct MG optional Fog Lamps and single Back-Up lamp. We recently obtained this car from the estate of the original owner. The car had not been driven or even run for the last 5 years but with nothing more than fresh fuel, new battery and replacement of a failed ignition switch, the car came to life and has now been serviced and driven just as you see in the pictures. It actually drives very well and looks to have nearly brand new tires put on sometime in the past prior to our purchase. Engine and drivetrain operate well, no smoke, no leaks, excellent sound and good performance. Brakes and clutch seem just fine. Electrical system looks to be fine and all gauges except the tachometer (broken lens) operate as expected. all lights are functional, we replaced 2 burned out headlamp bulbs. As photos depict, the original paint has lost adhesion coming off the car everywhere but revealing a pristine metal body devoid of any filler or prior damage. The wood inner structure is rot free, very nice and dry. Interior is original except for seat cushion which we believe was recovered over the original long ago. There is no top or side curtains. interestingly the family has no memory of their Mother driving the car with a top, they were surprised I asked about it believing the car never had one. This car could well be enjoyed and appreciated by enthusiasts just as it is or would make for a very easy restoration with no modifications, no rust and outstanding originality so well preserved.
