1979 MG MGB Description

Solid California car to drive as-is or return to perfect condition, reluctantly offered with low reserve. I'd intended to complete a sympathetic recommissioning of this not quite perfect, but well preserved MGB, but an out of state move compels me to sell. Still finished in nicely worn but quite presentable carmine red, the car does have a few blemishes. Most notably the driver's side front fender seems to have suffered a shunt in the past as evidenced by a small crease near the headlamp and the decklid has the usual scars of one that's suffered at the hands of someone who tried to shut it without understanding the intricacies of the strut release. There are also some dents in the driver's side door, which I'm told are the result of the vigorous application of a motorcycle chain, though I cannot confirm that with any degree of certainty. I see no evidence of anything but cosmetic damage. All of the lighting systems are functional, save the turn signals. What I can say is, that I bought it from a local British car specialist (who was selling it to cover the bill its previous owner had accrued) and parked it in my garage as other tasks took precedence over the car. I did try to get a California smog certificate, but this was not to be forthcoming owing to a manual choke conversion and overly rich mixture setting on the carburettor. Still, the MG starts readily and the gauge indicates 75 lbs of oil pressure when cold, with no untoward grumbling from the bottom end, the odometer shows just under 75,000 miles, which I believe to be genuine. The four speed gearbox (non overdrive) feels strong and shifts with that characteristic rifle-bolt action. I have documentation showing that this car was sold new by Haron Motors of Fresno in 1980 (see pictures). Included with purchase are worn but completely serviceable full and partial tonneueau covers as well as the factory jack and lug wrenches in their original storage bag. The car runs and drives, but will definitely need a little fettling to be fully roadworthy. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask and I will answer them to the best of my ability.
