1971 MG MGB Description

1971 MGB convertible roadster in very nice condition. The car is road ready if your out of state and would like to drive it home. I have had the car for about 3 years. I drove it back from Vandellia, Illinois where it had been restored. It has been repainted in a one stage blue metallic paint. The body has very little rust. The rocker panels, floor pans and wings are all original and mostly rust free. There is one small fingernail size rust bubble on the drivers wing, very low on the panel, and that's it. The interior has been completely removed, the metal primed and painted and new sound deaden-er, pad and carpet installed. Both seats have been completely restored with new foam padding and covers. All the interior panels have been replaced. The battery area has new plastic buckets for the batteries. The electrical is in great condition, everything is bright and there is no wire splices except in the radio area where a nice alpine phantom face cd player is installed. The sound system is good even on the highway with the top down. The dash is original with a British Leland decal covering up what must have been where a dash compass was installed and removed. There is one very slender crack on the top of the dash that is very unnoticeable. The gauges are all good, the tach needle bounces a little. The little gauge light dimmer works and the brake test light moves but is not connected in the engine area, the connector is there but there is no switch. The top is factory original and works great, easy to put up and down. The chrome is bright and I have the little guards for the front bumper if you prefer that look. I also have the head rests, and the ro-style wheels which have been restored. I had new tires put on last year and they have very few miles on them.
Mechanics: The original 1800cc has been bored .030 over and professionally rebuilt. I drove the car from Vandellia, Illinois to Tulsa, OK at highway speed 85 plus with no problems and I have never had any serious problems with the car, just little things that MGs are known for. The head must have warped because it was replaced with a 69 model. The engine number plate was lost when the block was vatted. The front end has new spindles, springs and shocks. There is a 1/8" play in the steering wheel which I have traced to the steering rack. I think it can be shimmed but I have not gotten around to looking into it deeper. The racks are not expensive to replace if need be. The fuel system is in great working order even though I let the floor jack slip and dented the tank. The rear shocks are good although the drivers shock rear needs the arm replaced, I have a new one I will throw in. The rear end appears to be good even though I have never opened it up yet. The transmission works great, synchronized through all four gears. The brake and clutch masters are new and work great. The front disk brakes will need some pads soon, the back ones were restored and should be fine. The exhaust was replaced with OEM MG stock which in good condition. The new clutch is fine. You should be able to put a lot of trouble free miles on this car.
I have had several MGs since high school in the 70s and this one is a keeper. The last owner said he believed the car had been stored for 20 years after the motor had blown, I don't know, all I know is that when I check in the usual places for rust, this is none. It's hard to find a convertible, any convertible, that has the original floor pans after 50 years. When you drive it you can feel how tight the body is.There is a deposit of $500 required to hold the car for 7 days while arrangements are made to pick it up.If you have any other questions, you can try 9one8eight51 6six46.
