1958 MG Magnette ZB
1958 MG Magnette Description
The MG Magnette is an automobile that was produced by MG between 1953 and 1968. The Magnette was manufactured in two build series, the ZA and ZB of 1953 through to 1958 and the Mark III and Mark IV of 1959 through to 1968, both using a modified Wolseley body and an Austin engine. The Magnette ZA was announced on 15 October 1953 and debuted at the 1953 London Motor Show. Deliveries started in March 1954. Production continued until 1956, when 18,076 had been built. It was the first monocoque car to bear the MG badge. The ZA was replaced by the Magnette ZB that was announced in October 1956. Power was increased to 64 hp. The extra power increased the top speed to 86 mph and reduced the 0-60 mph time to 18.5 seconds. The car had leather trimmed individual front seats and rear bench seat. The dashboard and door cappings were in polished wood. Although the heater was standard, the radio was still an optional extra.
This very unique MG is quite the head turner. It has been passionately restored and maintained by British car enthusiasts who have driven it to show all over the US. The 4 cylinder motor and transmission has been upgraded to the same as used in the sport MGB 1800cc of that period making parts sourcing and repairs very easy. It also has front disc brakes from and MGB as well. The interior is actually beautifully appointed in leather surrounded by handsome wood trim and dash. A unique square clock is positioned smartly above the interior dash mirror which adds to the look and feel of a luxurious cockpit. If you are looking for something special to drive 4 persons to your favorite this is the car that will get you a prime parking spot!
