1980 MGB white, w overdrive, original owner, used as primary car for just a few years, as I have always been in sales and needed a 4 dr sedan or small SUV. Driven less and less over time, garaged since around 2006, and driven maybe less than 10 times since, natural inactivity issues. Mileage hard to say, two odometers, total 120- 150K tops?
Body in fairly good shape. No major accidents, never rear ended or head-on. Frame should be straight, I have never looked or felt cause to loo, RF fender replaced? Very minor rust, along seams, and a few other spots. Never repainted outside body work. The dealer put a non OE luggage rack on it. I didn’t care for it, didn’t use it, and eventually just took it off as it was a pain to clean the trunk lid. I have gone thru 4 or 5 tops, current one in good condition.
Engine or transmission never had major problems, kept it up when I drove it regularly. Last known issues were the clutch spring, fuel sender, ignition switch, tires. Electronic relay for overdrive. Wheels good but rusted between the ‘spokes’. Interior original seats, driver side seat needs foam, dash cracked, interior trim OK given age. Had alarm, and power booster in glove box. Antenna broken. Using spare tire, possible dry rot in others
Car was lovingly cared for, but it is an MG and something always needed replacing, which got harder to do the less I drove it. The car just sat and I could not keep up for lack of time, money, and access, as I kept it in a private condo garage 8 miles away from my house, where I could not work on it even if I did have the time and equipment. Excluding tires, I don’t think it would be costly to get the car on the road.
