1974 1/2 MGB
1974 MG MGB Description
This beautiful little car has a sad history. I purchased the car for my wife 16 months ago and on the drive home the engine blew. I took it to a mechanic here in Tulsa that came highly recommended and a complete engine rebuild was done.
Motor was removed from the car, cylinders bored out .040 over, new Pistons, rods, bearings, etc (all new internals), new alternator, new coil, head was machined, new fuel pump, etc. Nearly $3,000 was put into the engine and associated mechanicals.
Vehicle also has a new top and new tires. There are a couple of minor spots of surface rust. Body is straight and doors, hood, and trunk all line up and open and close as they should. Speedometer and odometer do not work. The odometer reads 38000 miles but that is likely inaccurate. I do not know how many miles the car has on it.
Unfortunately the positive recommendation for this mechanic proved to be incorrect. The above process took his shop 9 months to complete and I finally had to threaten legal action to get him to finish it. I took him the car Feb 11th of 2015 and didn't get it back until Nov 22nd. At that time it ran fantastic, and I drove it home with no issues.
In the intervening 9 months when he had our car, our life plans changed and we made the decision to move onto a sailboat and travel the Caribbean for an extended time. We left on that journey Nov 27th of last year. I opted not to sell the car with the onset of winter and instead parked it so that I could sell it in the spring when it would be in higher demand.
I returned to the States this month to tie up the remaining loose ends on land, and selling this car is one of those.
When I got back the car started right up and idled in my drive for about 15 minutes. I drove it to the store and it ran well on the way there. Unfortunately when I came out of the store it would not start. I had to have it towed home.
The mechanic had given me a one year warranty with the engine rebuild so I returned the car to him once again and he has had it for nearly two weeks now. It will start and run, but it will not stay running. He believes that the carburetors need synchronizing and he lacks the knowledge on how to complete that process.
Unfortunately my time on land is coming to a close and I must sell the vehicle before I can return to my boat. I have run out of time. My loss is your gain. Clean Oklahoma title in my name. Good opportunity for someone to get into a small British convertible for cheap, or a great opportunity to get it running and flip it for a significant profit.
