Gorgeous original Tahiti blue with Autumn Leaf interior
The idea was to improve on the excellent basics of a later model MGB….started with a near perfect 1978 car, 7,000 miles, hree careful owners since new (has covered only around 1,400 miles per year), 40-145 psi compression in every cylinder, 0+ psi oil pressure when warm, o smoke cold or hot, lways garaged, ell maintained.
Near perfect rust free floor, ills, hassis, tc. Excellent body with equally excellent ORIGINAL Tahiti blue exterior. We did a top quality chrome bumper conversion, ew lights, anels, utting, elding, abrication, liminated the side marker lights and welded in metal plates, lended the paint at all four corners, dded new bumpers, nd bumper guards, ew chrome Mk I grille, he exterior is now indistinguishable from the earliest and best looking MGBs.
Ride height was lowered to pre 1974 ½ height….new springs, ew suspension bushings, ainted and detailed. Brakes done. Converted to wire wheels with all new splined hubs, earings, nd seals. And a set of 14” wire wheels sandblasted, rimered, nd painted. Looks great.
Interior: new brownish carpets, ear perfect original seats and panels, custom wood dashboard, eather steering wheel, odern stereo, ew top, ull tonneau.
Finally, dded a modern Weber 32 DGV two barrel carb which makes an enormous difference in performance.
Fairly new top, ull tonneau, ack and knock off hammer, eat belts, uggage rack, riginal jack and jack bag, ew knock off hammer, uiet exhaust, ar is done and ready for all season driving. Air conditioning is available, ot very expensive and can easily be installed. Units are even available with a secondary heater which makes a HUGE difference in cold weather driving.
Although looked down on by most sports car enthusiasts, he later ‘rubber bumper’ MGBs had their virtues….factory rust proofing, ess time to rot away, lectronic ignition, hermostatically controlled electric radiator fans, igger gauges, etter controls, ower assist for the disc brakes, moother engines and gearboxes, ront and rear sway bars…….the problem, f course, as (in stock form) they are simply ugly, ll handling, nd gutless. But not this car, hich has been improved in every way.
AND BEST OF ALL……..original paint (with a bit of blending at the four corners) showing as perfect a body as can be imagined….no hidden bondo, o old damage, o secrets hidden from the eye. A genuinely excellent MGB that can be enjoyed for years and years.
Car starts instantly, uns flawlessly, rives wonderfully, nd can maintain 80-90 mph cruising speeds with plenty left. Real classic style in a 39 year old MG.
