1959 NASH (AMC) METROPOLITAN
1959 Nash (AMC) Metropolitan Convertible Description
1959 Nash (AMC) Metropolitan Convertible
This is the most desirable "Series IV" car with the high-compression 1500cc engine, trunk lid and vent windows. Clean, rust-free convertible Metropolitans are getting harder to find, and this is a good example. It is a mildly customized older restoration from the early '90s with only one owner since then. The car has been lovingly cared for, regularly started and driven, and serviced annually.
The paint color is a burnt orange which is close to the "Mardi-Gras Red" originally offered on these cars. The paint still shines very well with some minor imperfections. There are a few scratches and small chips which are to be expected from a car of its age. The body and underside are solid with no major rust issues. There is a small amount of bubbling (rust under the paint) at the lower rear corner of each door and a small spot on the rear deck. These aren't very visible and don't appear to be more than surface rust.
The interior was done in white vinyl with black carpet, and is all still intact with no rips or tears. The vinyl is a bit weathered, but could be enjoyed as is. The electrical system including the wipers, heater, all the lights, etc is all functional. The dash was modified for a modern stereo when the restoration was done, but currently the stereodoes not work.
The engine was just tuned up with a new distributor cap, rotor, condenser, points, plugs & wires. The carburetor was rebuilt and adjusted, and the car runs great. Mileage reads 11,760 but exact mileage is unknown. Anyone who says a car of this age has "original" miles on it doesn't know or is lying.
Registration is current and clean title is in hand.
