1954 Nash Ambassador Custom Custom Description

Up for your consideration, my 1954 Nash Ambassador Custom four-door sedan. Black/white exterior, black/white/silver interior. I have owned and enjoyed this car for five years, and now it is time to thin the herd. What it is: a solid older restoration with some modifications. Converted to twelve volts by previous owner, and converted from generator to alternator by me. What I have done during my five years of ownership:
  • Added seatbelts
  • Repaired heater core
  • Installed aftermarket sound system under dash
  • Boiled radiator
  • Repaired horn and wipers
  • Rebuilt starter
  • Installed window channel
  • Carburetorprofessionally rebuilt by Larry Isgro
  • and any necessary maintenance.
Paint is a 25 footer with plenty of patina. Chrome is driver quality. Door handles are pitted. Car is equippedwith reclining front seats, weather eye heater, original factory radio (not hooked up), clock, tinted sun visors, automatic transmission, OHV 6 cylinder engine, and WWW tires.

What's good:
  • Car is complete, all gauges work
  • Glass is all good
  • Horn, lights, wipers all work
  • Still using the original "Lift to Start" transmission lever (see picture)
  • Can be used as is or brought up to the next level
Car was heavily undercoated when new (some has flaked off after 66 years) and body and floors are solid. Tires have low mileage.
Car was used as a TV and movie background car. Used on "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" seasons 1, 2, and 3 (see pictures) and "The Blacklist" (2020). Also in the movies "Motherless Brooklyn" (2019 with Edward Norton, Alec Baldwin, and Willem Dafoe), "The Irishman" (2019 with Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci). Has been used as a police car (see pictures) with white "peel paint" on the doors, since removed. I have driven the car to and from NYC many times (70 miles round trip) through Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. Hood ornament and roof badges are included but not mounted.
What's not so good: engine has a noticeablenoise and has since I've owned the car. Sounds like the harmonic balancer is in need of replacement (presumably), but it does not affect the drivabilityof the car .Some bubbling at the bottom of the doors. Accelerationis leisurely with the hydramatic.Carpet is old and could be replaced. Some flaking of the white roof paint. Runs and drives like a 66 year old car! Reserve is set low, extra parts are included. This is a nice unique opportunity/ride to take to the next level, or great body style for a drivetrain update.
