“TIME WARP 300ZX”

I am helping a good friend sell this gorgeous example Z32 from 1993. Just as a matter of reference, I have been judging automobiles at all types of show levels for over 25 years, including concour level. I also have extensive experience in restoration of many marques. I am extremely picky and probably grade more on the lower side when evaluating vehicles. I would consider a #1 car to be a full show car and I would call out a #1+ to be a concour level car. If I call out a category level from 1-10, a ten would be concour as well. This car is surely at the highest end collector level condition. It is clearly a #1 on the show level scale and on the survivor level it is a 1+. This has to be one of the cleanest, most original 300ZX’s I have ever been around from this era.

This would be the kind of car that the President of the Nissan Z Club of America might have in his collection. It is simply as good as it gets.

My expertise in “survivor" or “preservation” forensics is called upon at most of the car shows I judge, as that category has come of age and I have been enamored with survivor cars throughout my life. My collection of 12 cars has six that are pure survivors and they are without a doubt my favorite.

Because I have always been interested in original condition cars I have made a science in my study of them. In my estimation this car is 100% original in all materials including the tires on this car. I am not a marque expert on Nissan, so if I am wrong and it is pointed out I will gladly post in the questions asked area below this text as it occurs.

BODY & PAINT

I can find no evidence anywhere on the body of ever having been repainted anywhere. This is truly a spectacular original paint car. The body is impeccable with the exception of a couple of very very minor dings that have not been removed, but would be extremely easy to make disappear. Most people would probably never see them, but my eye is extremely critical and will pick up the slightest flaw. I could have them done by my guy before the car is shipped if the buyer so instructs, otherwise it will be up to the new owner to decide if they warrant removal.

Because the car has literally never “lived” outside in any form except for driving, the paint still retains its factory original finish. This car was NEVER a daily driver that sat out in a parking lot all day. This car was purchased as a weekend fun car to be used sparingly and hopefully to become a future collectable. The one owner is meticulous in his care of the automobile and has kept it in his garage with a car cover over it from day one. He states the car has never once been driven in the rain (well it never rains in Southern CA… there is a song about it!!!). He has always hand washed the car and kept a high-end wax applied to the finish. It has recently been detailed for the sale and shows like a mirror. I got a few spots of water on it when I was moving it around the day I shot the video and you might see some spots on the driver side quarter panel. I can assure you those are not marks on the car. I didn’t realize it until I was looking at the video on a big screen monitor last night and I do not want to reshoot the video.

INTERIOR

The interior is a thick and durable cloth type material that is in exceptional condition. There is virtually no wear anywhere on the interior. The seats, the door panels, the dash, headliner and carpet are all in factory new condition. There are no rips or tears and it has never been smoked in and has no odors. The dash is is not faded or cracked and is literally brand new. All gauges and interior lights work.

UNDERCARRIAGE

Having spent every minute of its life in Southern CA dry climate and having never been driven in rain, the undercarriage is factory original shape. There are no signs of rust or repair anywhere to be found. Many of the factory stencil marks is still intact on the nuts and bolts, make sure you check out the pictures. The original “Nissan” logo-ed mufflers are still intact. Note the tire tread remaining on the original Michelin Sport XGT V rated tires. There is zero cracking to the outer tire walls. Amazing to say the least. Again, there is no extreme temperature variations in Souther California, the rubber can easily retain its elasticity for decades. If I were going to drive the car a lot, I would likely replace these tires sometime in the near future.

MECHANICAL

This car has been maintained by the owner and he has always changed the oil every 3000 miles with Mobil 1 Synthetic Motor Oil.

In 1993, power was provided by a version of Nissan’s fine 60-degree 3.0-liter V6. The engine sports twin cams, 24 valves, pent roof combustion chambers with centrally located spark plugs, electronic fuel injection, variable intake-valve-timing system for improved performance throughout the rev band. Horsepower is at 222. Mated to a five-speed manual, these Z’s get up and roll nicely. I love the motors in these cars… they are nearly perfectly balanced and reliable like only a fully Japanese built motor can be. These are some of the most impressive drivetrains ever built in my estimation. The 90’s Nissan & Toyota motors were nearly bullet-proof.

The car drives flawlessly. The motor runs like a sewing machine (watch the start up video), idles smooth and accelerates with authority. The car brakes strong and straight. The car beelines down the road like a plumb line with hands off the wheel at 80 miles per hour. There is not a single rattle or creak in the chassis. The fuel injected motor starts right up with the turn of the key.

Mechanically this car needs nothing.

The Z’s Carfax is attached and will no show no accidents. The report shows two owners but this is not the case, it was simply an update to the title during a move within CA that caused the misnomer. Emissions test every couple of years clearly certify this low mileage example.

These Japanese sports cars from the 90’s are outstanding collector vehicles, especially for those that actually want to drive a car from the past. These Z’s are on the rise and one in this condition with exceptionally low miles is getting more difficult to come across. Black is one of the best colors on the Z32 body configuration in my humble opinion.

If you have been looking for the right collector Z to drive or to take to Nissan Car Shows, this may just be the nicest original example you will ever find. If you happen to be a survivor car freak like me, I can attest that you have literally found the holy grail.

This car is literally an historical document. The survivor condition tells a story of its construction, ownership and care.

“Z” for millions of people around the world, just a letter in the alphabet. For some, however, it is the alphabetical code for a phenomenon that defies technical description. To put it another way: for them, it is the legend of the Nissan Z cars.

If you are in Southern CA, feel free to call and set up an appointment to see and drive this car in person.
