Super rare Starfire with factory air conditioning! Only 44,000 original miles on this rust free, Arizona example! Built in California and preserved in sunny Arizona all its life! Full optioned, all fully functional, and ready to enjoy! Very neat collector piece!
Oldsmobile introduced the Starfire as its own model series in 1961, bringing with it a truly space age design and fully appointed luxury appointments and power accessories! Offered only in Sports Convertible form that year, it was the most expensive model you could buy from the Oldsmobile showroom with an original MSRP of $4,647, even more than the Ninety-Eight series! Distinguished by brushed aluminum body side panels, special grill treatment, thin white sidewall tires, top grain leather interiors, and Ultra High Compression performance V8 engines! Only 7,800 would be produced and few seem to remain on the road in the condition of this one we have offered.
We are very excited to represent this 1961 Oldsmobile Starfire Sports Convertible finished in Garnet Mist over matching Garnet Leather interior. Factory equipment on this example includes its original 394ci Skyrocket V8-4bbl engine with dual exhaust, floor-shifted Hydra-Matic automatic transmission, air conditioning, foam cushioned bucket seats, center console with tachometer, Roto-Matic power steering, Pedel-Ease power brakes, power window lifts, power vents, power locks, power folding top, power driver’s seat, vacuum operated rear trunk release, Safety Sentinel speed warning indicator, electric clock, Super Deluxe Wonderbar signal seeking radio with foot switch and power antenna, front & rear speakers, and day/night rearview mirror! Loaded with all the options, all of which function perfectly, including radio foot controls, clock, trunk release, all interior courtesy lights, and power antenna!
This example was produced from the South Gate, CA plant in 1961, and assumed an Arizona lifestyle from early on and stayed its entire life. Today, it shows only 44,000 actual miles and remains wonderfully rust free and solid. It was treated to a cosmetic restoration that included a high quality two-stage repaint of the exterior that remains excellent today. All of the exterior trim was removed for professional results. Inside, the seat leather/vinyl combination upholstery and door panels were replaced for new from well renowned SMS Fabrics based in Oregon along with new carpeting. The convertible top frame was fitted with a brand new, correct replacement and a beautifully styled boot cover matching the interior! The interior dash, instrumentation, exterior chrome, trim pieces, aluminum side panels, and badging all remain original and in very good condition! It is a remarkable car for its rarity, with beautiful design aspects inside & out! Any car collector would be proud to have this be a highlight in their collection.
