I'm selling this Olds as needing a complete restoration where every part should be repaired or replaced to bring this baby back to its former glory. This auction is just in time to buy that muscle car convertible if you wanted to have a cool old classic to restore over the winter months. You can be ready for top down cruising in style by next summer. I'm sure all the real Olds guys out there knowhowhard it is to find a True Viking Blue Cutlass Supreme/442 convertible. If you simply double click on the main picture of the auction page then all 24 pictures will be able to be viewed in the larger size by clicking the arrows on each side of the larger pictures. This is the first time this Olds has ever been offered to the public on eBay. I will explain everything I found out from the previous owner at the point of purchase. According to the gentleman that sold me the car he had known this convertible since back in high school over 30 years ago. It was purchased new by a woman from Newark, Ohio on 3-7-1972 from Chearon Olds-Cadillac, Inc. located at 102-108 East Main street in Newark, Ohio. The original new vehicle warranty is still in the glove box with the original owner's name on it. Also included is the original emissions control systems manual, and the original owner's manual. The woman who was the original owner gave this convertible to her niece and she drove it throughout high school, and then she moved to Hawaii. That was when the buddy of the guy I got the car from was able to make the purchase. This 1972 original paint code 26 Viking Blue Cutlass Supreme/442 convertible had sat in that guys garage for over 17 years. The gentleman I bought the car from convinced his friend he should be the next owner since that guy had just let it sit for so long. When he got the car this past spring he replaced the spark plugs and spark plug wires, so this Olds starts right up. There is one small piece of the passenger side manifold gasket missing, so it would be best if both gaskets were replaced at the same time. I don't have a heated shop or I would have done it myself. The last owner also replaced the master cylinder, front brake hoses, fuel lines, fuel pump, and replaced the original gas tank with a brand new one and replaced the alternator with a brand new one for maximum charging. There is a new battery dated from earlier this year. One of the rear brake lines may have a leak because the rear reservoir on the master cylinder was near empty last time I checked. The transmission does shift smooth, so this car does run, drive, and stop. It can be loaded right up on a trailer, but I wouldn't suggest driving it across country. The clean and clear title is in the gentleman's name that was the friend of the guy I made the purchase from. He had owned this car since October 10, 1998. I would believe this original Viking Blue convertible has had three registered owners prior to my ownership with the first two owners being female. According to this last owner, this Olds does have the original numbers matching Rocket engine, and I double checked to make sure. He was telling the truth! The last several digits of the vehicle identification number are on the block as shown in one of the pictures. He sold this convertible to me so he could have the money for the '66 Chevelle that he wants. The data plate shows that this convertible was ordered from the factory in code 26 Viking Blue. According to the OldsFaqs websiteonly 1,025 of the Cutlass Supreme/442 convertible models were made with an automatic transmission in 1972. They said whether this model is a real 442 or a converted Cutlass Supreme it is still considered to be like a real 442 if it is converted properly. If it were a real W-30 it would have an X in the vehicle identification number. The fender wells were only red on the very first 10 1972 W-30's that rolled off the assembly line in December of 1971. I'll give a little background on the 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, Cutlass S,and 442 models. Prior to the 1972 model year the vehicle identification numbers in all 442's started out with 344. That was the way to determine whether that specific car was ordered from the dealershipas a true442. This is easily verified by the OldsFaqs website that anyone can look up online. The 442 could be ordered as a separate model for the last time in 1971. Oldsmobile decided to make the 442 an ordered option starting in 1972. The OldsFaqs website made the statement that there is no such thing as a fake 442 in 1972. All 1972 442 convertible models started life as a Cutlass Supreme, since the 442 was an ordered option. Whether the car was factory ordered as a 442, or dealer installed, or a private owner installed all the 442 options, they are all considered Cutlass Supreme or Cutlass S bodies. This is why all 1972 442 convertibles have Cutlass Supreme on the glove box door, and all 442 hardtops have just plain Cutlass on the glove box door. I would suggest that the floors be replaced, and the carpet. Although, the interior looks in relatively nice condition as shown in the pictures. The front bench seat was professionally reupholstered last week, so it should be nice and comfortable for many years to come. All 6 sets of seat belts are still in place and all four windows roll up and down well. This will be a great car to attend the local drive-in movie theater with your sweetheart, so you can pop up the armrest and have your sweetheart slide over like the good old days. There is a brand new set of four black carpeted floor mats. The 1972 442 grilles are original genuine GM 442 grilles, not aftermarket reproductions. I'm a huge 442 fan andI've done many of these convertible's over the years,so Iknow howvery satisfying and rewarding the finished product can be. All the money invested along the way of the restoration process will only add to the value of this car. Theseearly 70's muscle cars have incredible investment potential, and have been referred to as rolling bank accounts. Remember, When the top goes down, the price goes up! According to the previous owner this car has had only one repaint sometime back in the 1980's. At that time it received two new full quarter panels. All of the body panels on this car appear to be original to the car. The convertible top will need to be replaced, but it does go up and down through the convertible top switch on the dash. I believe the back glass portion of the top can still be used, so just the canvas part of the top will need to be replaced. When these cars are done properly they command big dollars if the new owner ever decided to sell. The options include power steering, power brakes, and a power convertible top. Mostly every part on these cars arenow readilyavailable at a wide variety of new aftermarket muscle car parts suppliers of identicalreplacement parts. The original dash pad is in good shape and has an old school AM/FM Cassette player, but I believe an original stereo would be able to fit right in the original spot if the next owner so desires. Fortunately this dash was never cut up like was typicallydone tothese cars back in the day. The second hand on the clock still works but the clock itself will need to be re-calibrated. I saw no signs of this car ever being involved in an accident other than the small blemish on the front of the passenger fender. This Oldsreally sits up awesome with the proud stance of a 442. The original trunk floor has had some repair, and includes a new trunk mat. The trunk does carry a full size spare with an original jack, bumper mount, jack stand, and crow bar. There is a set of four Widetrack S/R Radial raised white lettered steel belted radial tires with very good tread mounted on a set of four 14" inch Super Stock II wheelspainted to match the original body color of the car. There arechrome lug nuts on all four wheelswithall fourcenter caps, andall fourbeauty trim rings. From everywhere I looked in my opinion the frame is in very nice condition. A lot of the chrome is still very usable on this car, or in drivers quality condition. In fact there aren't reallyany hard to find chrome pieces that I can think of that might be missing. What you see is exactly what you get! These mostly complete older classics that have survived for over 40 years are becoming harder and harder to find. Especially in Viking Blue!! The Nada Classic Car Price Guide currently has the 1972 OldsmobileCutlass Supreme/442 Convertible with a Rocket 350/180 horsepower L-34 listed at $57,530 in high condition, which theyconsider an excellent overall vehicle that was completely restored, or an original vehicle showing very minimal wear. Note: This value does not represent a 100 point show car or a #1 vehicle. Those vehicles can reach much higher prices. $38,060 in average condition, which theyconsider in good overall condition that could be an older restoration or a well maintained original vehicle that is completely operable. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. They say an average condition car is considered a20-Footer! As shown in the pictures I would consider this OldsConvertiblecurrently valued in between the average and low condition, and could be rated much higher with some elbow grease. They have the lowest condition value at $25,190being considered a deteriorated restoration or a very poor restoration, but mostly usable "As-Is!" The lowest value does not represent a parts car, but would be considered as the price for a car needing a complete restoration. That being said the numbers don't lie! ThisViking Blue Convertible is a very valuable classic automobile! Why not enjoy the same looking convertible for a fraction of those prices. The bottom line is the new owner could buy a $600 dollar aftermarket ram-air hood and take this car over to their local Maaco and have a nice Viking Blue paint job put on it with the white W-30 stripes and have themselves a 25-30K looking car right away. This Oldsmobile is an investment that I believe will continue to rise as these cars have been consistently proven to escalate in value. These GM A-Body muscle cars are the finest handling cars I have ever driven. This car is for the guy or girl that always wanted one back in high school, or had one and wants to restore one instead of paying the crazy prices to purchase one already finished. This would be a great father and son project or for a high end classic car restoration shop that knows the values of all the parts on these cars. There is no finer muscle car on the planet in my eyes than the 1970-1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme or442convertible. Here is a prime opportunity to acquire your dream car at a nominal price. The deposit will need to be paid within 24 hours, and the balance is due within 72 hours prior to the pick-up or transport of this car. The title will be sent out the same day the funds are clear, or be kept in the glove compartment with the originalowner's manual for transport. Whichever way the winning bidder decides. I know my descriptions can be a little long winded, but I try to list and accurately portray everything I can think of when I write a description.
